I find it much easier to remain polite when the disagreement is over how to solve a commonly recognized problem, than when people can't agree that there is a problem and/ or what the problem is.

I think Canadais - not sure if the spelling is the same - is a derogatory word, in Italian, for typical Canadian (hoser eh). Like hick or simpleton. Somebody who is from an Italian Canadian family taught me that years ago.
I get a bit hot around the collar when politicians are more concerned with politeness (take Canadian politics as an example) than actually addressing a real problem. There's a point where it becomes superficial and dishonest.
