Have girl names we like. Not sold on any boy names yet. Have a bunch, but don't want to influence the brainstorming process.

Here's your chance. Difficulty level: Can't suggest your own name.

Well chansen, my sons all came with their names attached, so I've never gotten to name any of my own kids. Although I did supply (at his request) my youngest son with a list of English names from which he chose one for himself.

That said, I sometimes used to think that if I ever had a son to name I would (only if his mom was okay about it too of course) give him a name like...

Doctor

Pastor

Captain

Something like that.

Christopher With your name and Clair's and Carter all starting with "c"

Seconded.

Christopher "Chris" Hansen has a nice ring, actually. And the C thing definitely should be kept in place, so if not that, maybe:

Connor
Curtis
Colin

Would all work, too, but I think Christopher would be my first choice.

@chansen - what letter does your wife's name begin with? With you and Claire having C names, it might be nice if your son and your wife had names beginning the same.

J

But there was never a intended "C" theme. It just worked out that way. Claire was almost Brooke.

If we had had a second boy he would have been George. That was long before the present Prince George. It is an old family name - grandfather, two cousins (neither of whom I'm close to), middle name of my brother. Also spelled and pronounced similar in English and French.
But that was my choice. I also like James. And I don't like nicknames. Nor do I like giving a parent's name (creates confusion). Parent's name can be a middle name.

What do you like?

Being a school teacher, I get to see what are trendy names, and what are not.

Right now, there are a multitude of Connors, Baileys, Christians (We have 5 boys named Christian in a high school of about 890 students.) We also have lots of Wills, Morgans, Haydens, Justins, and Jareds.

We haven't had a Peter at my school for 10 years, which shows how rare this classic name has become. And we haven't had a George at the school in my time there (17 years.) Although I expect that to change as the years go by, as many people will have named their baby George after the prince. (But I will be retired by then, hooray!)

Other names I haven't seen in the last 10 years in the high school: Greg, Richard, Michael, Mark, Harry (Surprising, given the popularity of Harry Potter franchise, ) and Oscar. (Although the name Oscar doesn't have positive associations, from Oscar the Grouch to Oscar Pistorius.)

I like names that are connected to family / heritage, so hard for me to give a name, as it wouldn't have the depth that I would like.

Example:
first son's named after family tradition (granpda, great-grandpa....and generations before, all had same first 2 names)]
girls were named after favourite aunts & older cousins
Youngest son got all the irish heritage names.
