Ok, so I will start this off by saying I have never been pregant nor do I have children so maybe I am biased or insenstive or something about this but that is why I am asking more knowledgeable people in this area.
I don't get expectant mother parking or at leaast people's use of it. I used to be completely against it thinking if you decided to get pregant you should learn how to function in society and walk to the d*** door. I have changed my opinion slightly to be a little more sympathetic to those who are hugley pregant or who are having complicaitons or something and can't/shouldn't be walking that much. However, I am very stingent on who I think should use those spaces. For example, today I saw a woman, early 30s perhaps, park in the expectant mother parking spot. She got out of the vehicle and was not obviously pregnant, in fact, she didn't look at all pregant. I watched her go to the side door of her van and open it, walk around to the other side of the van and open that door too. Out of the second door she retreived a baby in a car seat. The baby was fairly young, with the knowledge I have I'd say less than a year maybe even less than 6 months. Now, out of the other door get two little girls, perhaps 3 and 4/5. Together they walk into the store.
My problem with this is, she ISN'T and expectant mother! To me, she is a lazy woman who decided to have three children but that does not give you the right to take that parking spot. If everyone who had small children parked in those spots they'd never be empty! I saw at least two other families with small children in the store and they didn't park in the expectant mother's parking so why did she think it was her right?
Does anyone else see a problem with this or am I just blowing it out of proportion? What are your thoughts about these spaces and the proper etiquitte of their use?
