You can get the 'official' news from the GC42 website - but I thought I might post this thread for other personal comments/observations from those of us who are attending. I know that Birthstone, Revjohn & I are here, and Busymom's daughter too - possibly others from our community too.

I arrived yesterday - staying in a very basic dorm room - an experience I missed earlier in my life. I've been thinking about the students who live & study here & what it would be like.

Corner Brook is, like most of NL, VERY HILLY!! Today is bright & sunny - so this morning I walked the Valley Trail down to the harbour to a little cafe I read about - had a delicious latte & lunch on the deck overlooking the water. Delightful. Then walked back again - about 6km in all. Crossing the road at the last major intersection before that last big hill to university - I was delighted to pass in front of a vehicle with a UCC sign in its window! So I hopped in - very grateful for the lift!!

Registration is this afternoon; Council opens this evening.

Happy to report that Birthstone is my roomie :).

Off to a good start tonight ... delicious dinner, great worship, met my table group - a very interesting mix of people & I look forward to getting to know them better.

Birthstone was onto 'moderator bingo' at supper - I think we spotted 5 or 6 former moderators, and a good number of the candidates.

Haven't located our prayer fish yet, but we are watching for it! I'm sure it will swim into our consciousness at some point in the week. Sign & cards will get added to the EDGE table tomorrow morning. Now I'm going to sleep!

Very exciting Carolla! If you have a "busydaughter" sighting, please let me know! I got a message from her tonight that she is having a great time. Thanks to Pinga pointing it out to me, I was able to see a glimpse of her on the livestream singing "River of Life". So fun to see! Thanks for the updates Carolla. Good of you to share your experience with us.

I received an update from Busydaughter this morning. Here are the highlights. Interesting perspective from a teenager.....
1) Plane rides: The first one felt like the Magic School Bus. The second one had touch screen TVs but not head phones oh well
2) The residence and campus is amazing!
3) We were given goodie bags which are adorable.
4) UCW ladies rock EVERYWHERE!
5) I love seeing London Conference people (our home conference)
6) Opening worship was beautiful. Like wow! I am at the Olympics of the United Church!
7) I am meeting lots of people
8)I saw Birthstone and Rev John and one other person from wondercafe
9)This morning I saw a bit of the sunrise with some volunteers....what's with me being a morning person???

Like the Olympics? Was there a parade of nations? Torch relay? Flag ceremony?

There was a processional, which she was thrilled to be a part of. And yes, there were banners. From an 18 year old's perspective it was very exciting and a great experience.

Glad I could add some fun to your day fellas. Just passing on my kid's experience, as described by her.

Play on!

hey guys, just a reminder what this forum is about. I would like people to feel free to talk about their experiences without seeming that they are going to be made fun of by non-UCC folks.

BusyMom, you can let her know that any ear buds she might have will work in the armrest of her chair for the sound. The steward will usually have spare ones as well.

I'd love to hear about the goodie bags. and the comment re ucw rocking...well, that is great

If I were, I would have had sufficient evidence to put you away for life years ago.

No, I just better understand what you can get away with saying. And that's saying something. For example, commenting that the UCCan are bound to have some "flamers" in their midst isn't funny - it's just bad form and it's the sort of thing that gets you into trouble.
