Churches and Halloween

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

Maybe the point was to have fun and build community? Also a valid reason for a church to host something, particularly a social function.

Exactly. We are known in this end of town as an inclusive welcoming church where you needn't park your brains, nor your doubts, at the door. And the community outside of the congregation is always welcome.

I didn't go, because there are plenty of folks to help with this, but the kids have fun, the parents enjoy it, the volunteers love to do it. Pumpkin carving contest, spooky treats to eat, a haunted house, crafts to do, spooky stories. Good clean fun.

A church must do everything it does for the glory of God. Otherwise, it's just a social club at best

You don’t think God is glorified when people have fun together and build a community?
@BetteTheRed already said, "...the kids have fun, the parents enjoy it, the volunteers love to do it. Pumpkin carving contest, spooky treats to eat, a haunted house, crafts to do, spooky stories. Good clean fun."

My concern, Redbaron, is that fun and community become the main attraction there rather than just coming as a byproduct of worshipping Christ.

What makes the Church unique's the Word's preaching. The sacraments. Prayer! THE GATHERING OF GOD'S PEOPLE AROUND CHRIST!

The Church's purpose's to glorify God through faithful worship and discipleship.

Socializing by itself's not enough. A church must be a community centred on Christ

It Didn't it glorified themselves

Seriously?
Yes ---Very Seriously ----

Unbelievers Cannot Glorify God in anything they do cause they are away From God ----they can only glorify themseves with their fun Halloween ---in a Church which is suppose to be a Christ centered Church ----Which today is very rare ---Most Churches today are Run by Unbelievers pretending to be Believers -----

Biblical Passage on Self-Glorification and Unbelief
    • Romans 1:21-22: Humanity knew God through creation and conscience, "yet they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and darkened in their foolish hearts. Claiming to be wise, they became fools."

Believers -----glorify God together in a community through unity, mutual care, shared worship, and shining His light before others.

Matthew 5:16
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven

Unbelievers are separated from God ----so all they do is self Glorifying

Unbelievers, unsafe, still bear God's image and can do acts that appear outwardly good. The real issue's the orientation of the heart toward God.

Let's remember that we believers were once in the same condition as they and have nothing to boast about except Christ's mercy.

The purpose of our light shining's that others would see God's grace and be drawn to glorify Him as well

That glow-ray is a darker form ... like a shadow on the wall ... in the population of avarice ... glow-ray-fey ... shadowy flapper ... Phoenix?

Whatever symbols we encounter, Luce, the real question's whether they draw us toward Christ, who's the Light, or deeper into own imaginations' darkness. Even the shadows exist under His sovereign hand

Who are you to judge the hearts of people?

Judging is so rampart even if the judge is based on feelings alone without a wide enough knowledge ... and that width is phenomenal ...

Then is Halloween ... just hallowed small place where souls escape to from the brutal emotions of people that wish to win everything? Maybe just a thin, dark, inky line ... black and fluid expression ... sometimes in block form ... to be properly interpreted with a field of wisdom that needs to be collected!

Tough challenge ... the closer you get it regresses ...

Who are you to judge the hearts of people?
We're commanded to evaluate people by their profession and fruit.

When someone openly rejects God's Word, persists in sin, or DENIES ESSENTIAL TRUTH, we're not claiming omniscience by recognizing that. We're simply agreeing with God's revealed standard.

They're judging themselves when their actions contradict the Word.

Faith's not merely a verbal profession. The elect will persevere and genuine faith produces good fruit

Waterfall ----the Heart and the Mouth are Connected -----so what is in your heart will flow freely out of your mouth -----

If your Heart is against God's Word then What comes out of your mouth you will comfirm that by your own words ---

If your Heart believes God's Word then what comes out of the Mouth will confirm that by their own words -----

What Jesus said in Mendalla's post.

Jesus liked fun...turned water into wine, and all that. He connected with children, and I think he saw their light heartedness. Halloween doesn't have to be evil. It can be fun and respectful. If it shows a loving and accepting church, who then invites faith and gives guidance in many ways....I can't imagine that Jesus would disapprove.

Halloween absolutely IS NOT EVIL. The only reason Halloween gets tagged for being evil is that its roots are in a pre-Christian pagan festival and those pagan roots are equated with "devil worship" by a certain segment. The whole ghosts and monsters thing goes back to the belief that it's a night when the veil between worlds is "thin" so our connection to the deceased and the supernatural is heightened. It's not about worship of demons or anything like that. The pagan religions behind it didn't even believe in a devil in the Christian sense and were as much about opposing and protecting against evil as any Christian. But the spirits of the deceased ancestors weren't seen in that light, they were welcomed and honoured as many traditions still do today. Frankly, Christian opposition to Halloween is rooted in Christian prejudice against and persecution of pre-Christian faiths, not any kind of protection from evil.
