My sidewalk is a skating rink with a very thick layer of ice - ice melter doesn't seem to be doing a thing
Fun facts:
-Standard Rock Salt-works best above -9 C and lower than that it starts to lose its effectiveness and then stops working altogether.

-Calcium Chloride-is more effective working down to -29 C.

-Magnesium Chloride- also works on lower temp. --25 C
(Can be corrosive to new or untreated driveways.

-Sand doesn't melt but provides traction.

Home Depot or other home hardware stores sell this under different brand names. They also sell blends of rock salt and the above. Some are pet and vegetation friendly. Ask the clerk to guide you to the best for your situation

Thanks to Google and the weather channel...lol

A nice sunny day is the best option overall :) Not as guaranteed (time-wise) as the above methods.

Sometimes, you just can't count on that weird yellow thing in the sky to show up, though. Winter is definitely cloud season around here unless it gets too cold and the Great Lakes freeze up. That breaks the water/weather cycle around here so we get more of the clear but extremely cold type winter days.

AB gets cloudy winter skies but more often than not, we get sunny wintery days. :)

Weird yellow thing in the sky?

Could it be a sour thing burning to produce acids, sulphurous residues? Maybe just a lemon tree ... fire flying!

Wood ash is great. but hard to find these days. Miss the Aging Hippie's woodstove. Looks like it will be pretty cold next week which usually means less snow.

We are on the other side of zero for the foreseeable future it seems. Might get some sun, though. Won't LAST given it is January.

In a way, it is hard to believe we are only over halfway through January...this year feels like we should be in June because of everything that's been happening.

Grrrrr...FB has changed something and it's changed some of my info on FB and FB won't let me change it back!

An AI researched in NB has said that there is some virtue to AI but we need caution in its force ...

Can it be brutal in confusing the vernacular ... the common voice?

Look what it has done to politician's voices ...
