I guess my point is that, though sad, ostriches aren’t people. And they did need to rely on something other than their own gumption, obviously, to survive. They needed people to stand up for them and the govt to care about them. They had more media attention than MAiD opposition has.CFIA says shooting BC ostriches was 'most appropriate and humane option'

If you get your healthcare from the government, the government can let you die.
Remember ... we're like ostriches with our head often in the sand ... not as much alert as we believe!
They are Ratites, which is the family of flightless birds that lack a sternal keel as did dinosaurs.ostriches aren’t people
The farmers had raised them for meat though. Were they sad about those ones? How were the “food product” ostriches killed? I mean - ostrich meat sounds disgusting to me, but be honest. The farm was a meat farm until it couldn’t be.They are Ratites, which is the family of flightless birds that lack a sternal keel as did dinosaurs.
There are only five groups of ratites left in the world (ostriches, emus, kiwis, cassowaries, and Rheas).
They have a special place in the animal kingdom.
Ratites may be the closest living relatives to the dinosaurs and truly are fascinating.
The ancestors of modern ratites originated in the Northern Hemisphere (Laurasia) during the late Early Cretaceous, approximately 105-115 million years ago.
The oldest undisputed fossils of modern forms, such as ostriches, are from the Miocene of Africa and are about 20 million years old - a living heritage of the ancient past.
Ostriches are sweet, goofy birds beloved by people who choose to be their guardians.
You’re not being honest. The birds had avian flu - which is dangerous to people and other animals including farm animals - and the ostrich farm owners only stopped slaughtering ostriches when they were no longer lucrative and they saw COVID antibody research as an opportunity to not totally lose their business. So they made it about saving the birds. And, guess who showed up but anti-vaxxers who decided - based on their own predetermined ideas influenced by antigovernment/ anti-vax mentality, that the owners must be doing something better than the government was doing about COVID research and animal welfare. So the owners welcomed that. But they weren’t any better.Sad to notice the trend of those now coming out of the woodwork trying to justify the slaughter of the ostriches.
Many - if not virtually all of them - did not want to talk about the ostriches at all in the last 11 months.
They even went out of their way to Ignore the story.
Suddenly they cannot contain themselves from promoting, justifying and amplifying the government slaughter.
The propaganda campaign of the Canadian government to manufacture consent is being swallowed hook line and sinker by those who refuse to connect the dots.
We didn’t want to talk about it because - and I’m not trying to be mean - the argument was a bad one. And the people making it have another agenda. And I don’t mean “you” specifically. Right wing libertarians. But you do drive me bonkers in communication. That’s another reason for not commenting here for so long.Sad to notice the trend of those now coming out of the woodwork trying to justify the slaughter of the ostriches.

This is loss of wildlife and other animals that should raise a lot of concern. The bird flu is presently strong around Berlin, Germany, with thousands of cranes being found dead. They were on their way migrating south. Farms, Zoos, everyone is on high alert.
Coalitions and alliances: Farmers, scientists, and animal welfare advocates working together to propose alternatives to mass culling and push for policy reform. And the people making it have another agenda.
