That’s what the Nobel prize winner was trying to do too. I get it. I’m still concerned about a quieter version of fascism taking place here - both to appease Trump subtlety without stressing out mainstream voters, and as a means to “fix our problems” in this country.

What I want to add though, is that the problems in this country (and around the world) are a result of capitalism run amok - and Carney doesn’t appear to care about letting billionaires off the hook while he quietly cuts from the bottom. That’s still fascism - even if it’s done with reasoned speech, careful math, good manners, and a smile. So let’s hope - not just hope - but do our civic duty to hold him accountable and not just stick our heads in the sand. There are a lot of suffering people out there whose lives, I don’t have confidence that Carney will give any meaningful leg up to. Just, attrition. And that’s not okay.

Agreed. From a definition POV, global free market capitalism is what exists. How individual countries redistribute their part of global capital is where government comes in, in the form of taxation policies, primarily.

Fair enough. I’ll clarify because I don’t think you’re taking an honest look at it. He’s not a bloviated authoritarian dictator, but elements of fascism are present and being quietly bolstered. We have a more nationalistic bent these days - when people put the ideal of a nation ahead, patriotism to a notion of Canada ahead substance, that’s a problem for those who are not already secure. Human rights have been abused with certain groups - but I suppose if you can convince the court to change the interpretation of a human rights law without deferring to the affected group’s concerns or without respect for international principals our government committed to that are supposed to guide Canadian law, and just carry on that way under new leadership without addressing warnings by the UN, then no harm no foul. /s

If Carney’s your guy because the Liberals are your team and “at least he’s not Trump” has you at ease, then you won’t see it. You won’t be looking for it. You might be hesitant to critique him until too much damage has been done. At least keep it in mind as we go forward, take a look from time to time, and ask if anything he’s doing is an element of fascism. Or if he’s ceding control of any of our systemic operations to other fascists. That’s all I’m suggesting is don’t ignore the possibility.
