Expansion of MAID delayed until after next election

I've met many people who were suicidal. For awhile I was collecting unsuccessful suicide attempts. There were some good ones, like the guy who turned on his gas stove, let the trailer fill up with gas, then light a cigarette. He was sitting in front of me telling me this. Apparently, the person is the centre of the explosion in this situation. He changed his mind and crawled out under the flames and smoke and emerged with only singed eyebrows. Call me a ghoul for this.

The fact is, no matter what is done prevent it, some people will successfully kill themselves.

Nothing ghoulish about the "kits in hardware stores" comment. The writer was reminding us we have a controlled system for MAiD.

The safeguards aren’t robust enough to prevent an Aktion t4 situation. In fact they’re deliberately ambiguous.

Disabled people were singled out as the only minority group “allowed” - this was true in how they made physician assisted suicide a disability “right” at the direction of a behemoth well funded lobby group against every disability organization’s objections. Disability organizations have less funding collectively for everything they do than DwD has for this single issue. DwD even have corporate donors.

If any other group were singled out this way, for a right to die specifically pointed at them - there’d be mass demonstrations (as there should be). But we can’t ignore how disability was used as a catalyst.

If you can say that then you haven't learned about the process people need to go through to get MAID. Disabled people included.

Suicide = killing yourself
Homicide = killing someone else
Genocide = killing a large group based on ethnicity/nationality
Democide = a govt. killing its own citizens

The latter is by far the most deadly.

Seriously? You don't care whether disabled people get adequate supports?

It seems to me it's quite reasonable to ask such a question.

I guess that tells me a lot.
Of course I care but I’m not jumping because you said jump.

What an astounding question and attitude. You can be really, cruelly, fickle.

Truth is I don’t even have a doctor to fill out a bus pass form right now. Life is hectic enough so yeah, put more burden on disabled people trying to survive. Why doesn’t the public and our legislators do more with money and energy to do more? They won’t because until the public cares they won’t either. Advocacy organizations have been demanding better for years (decades) and I’ve been part of that. Now, I’m surviving.

Genocide not mutually exclusive from “democide” if the government is targeting a particular group of its citizens - that sounds like something libertarians made up but I could be wrong.

I guess I'm surprised that someone as passionate as you doesn't have potential solutions. I guess negative is easier.

Yeah oops I forgot I’m superwoman. Most people trying to challenge this have enormous barriers to deal with and no money. That’s why they’re getting dismissed. It’s already dire without MAiD - disabled people already fighting for better conditions -but then MAiD came along and that’s basically code red for disabled people from a policy standpoint. Especially track 2 being passed during COVID (on the anniversary of UN CRPD ratification) when we were even more limited.

The more they get dismissed the less mainstream people will be met by positivity around these issues. It’s very hard to stay positive and a waste of time for me to discuss this here. The whole thing is demoralizing and depressing.

The ableism in society is debilitating and we know where that’s headed.
