Particular belief systems to benefit power ... how easy it is to sway the unthinking ... after all thinking is a difficult process if you are conditioned to not do that ...

It’s not just about Kennedy. It’s about growing eugenics attitudes in Canada. The US far right is only predicted to do more damage. Kennedy’s weirdness was a segway into the rest of the article calling on Canadians to be aware - and know the history - and stand up for disability rights, and to know about the UN warnings etc.
 
Many if not most Canadians have yet to really see the connection. Disability advocates have been pointing it out for a long time. Yelling it from the rooftops actually. It’s important because disability affects everyone at some point - and MAiD is not a “solution”. Also, not losing sight of the social model that ushered in positive changes for generations is important.

This is the character and nature of blind faith and what it does to a truth of intellectual quality ... prodigal as I've commented before ... the truth can be disposed of ...

For some of us that would like it to survive it is hidden sacredly in legends of myths and ballads stacked legends deep like the swine of the OT! They dove into an ancient saline Ca ... Calcium? C'est Ca ... in some of the Gael domains it appears as chocque and ancient word on the dirt of humanity ... Marie Antonetta spoke of it before she lost her head ... said folk could eat it ... the implications are gross ... like nigre in Latin Black Magic in word! Shakespeare referred to it as a Black Donkey or a shady Satyr ... a word with obtuse meaning is like a code red ... verily complex ...

The single thing that worries me the most is the anecdotal reports of health professionals offering/ suggesting (?) MAID as an option.

Such discussion is meant to be initiated by the patient, no?

I am not opposed to track 2 on principle but I sure think safeguards are important.
 
Track 2, on principle, goes against international law though. It undoes decades of human rights. Having it was going to inevitably lead to abuses. The creation of it, was an abuse.

It is particularly dangerous in this time.

Would agree that track 2 is more open to misuse/ abuse.

Your story about your hospital roommate when you fractured your hip was most alarming @Kimmio Laughterlove. And it is not the only such story that has reached my ears.

I believe there are times when it may be appropriate for a health professional to let someone know about MAID. That has to be done so well that the person receiving the information does not feel pressure on any way. Of course, that will be tough. I've known a few people who felt pressured when they were told about MAID. They believed they were being encouraged to use it. That is wrong. One woman has since died due to the natural course of her disease in Palliative Care.

Track 2. Track 2 is what’s being addressed here. Track 2 is for people who may not be close to death - could be years from it - and it is wrong. The UN is very clear about it. That’s what I posted about the last several times and it was sidelined. With all due respect I wasn’t talking about when it’s appropriate for a doctor to bring it up (though I agree with paradox3 disagree with northwind on that because everyone knows about MAiD now so the patient needs to ask at minimum). The United Nations is very clear that Track 2 Maid violates its principles. Very clear. That’s what I’m pointing out. If Canada doesn’t abide their objections we have no business calling ourselves a human rights affirming country.

That’s not what I was talking about though. My concern is that you can’t just “agree with Track 2 MAiD” without ignoring UN principals, international law, and Canada’s commitments. People need to know that’s what they’re doing when they agree with track 2. Admission of that keeps getting pushed aside and something else brought up instead.
