He's purged anyone in the Republican party that would consider opposing him.
That job complete, now he's trying to do the same to government departments.
That's the game - purge and replace. Then there's nobody left to oppose you. He slow walked the first part. Now he's fast tracking the second part. And everyone just watched.
First, Columbia and Venezuela. Then the cancelation of the Central American conference originally intended to create a united front. And now Trump's tariff threats work again! They have made Mexico agree to post 10,000 troops at the border to deter illegal migration and the transport of fentanyl.
Trump has suspended tariffs against Mexico for a month to see how effective these troops are.

And Trudeau is meeting Trump this afternoon after a preliminary meeting this morning so I'm expecting something similar from our side but we shall see.
It will be interesting to see how Trump fares in future polls on his successes through tariff threats..
On the one hand, Trump is unique as a president who pulls out all the stops to keep his promises; and he is amazing as a get-it-done president.
On the other hand, the ends, don't necessarily justify the means.

He is a disaster in the making. He is a bully. He shows no sign of wanting to lower prices. He shows no sign of being in it for the well-being of lower and middle class USans. He shows no sign of understanding how actual negotiations work towards a win-win solution..

Personally I hope Trudeau stands firm and keeps the tariffs Canada added.....until the deal benefits Canada more. Trump broke the trade agreement, and if we agree to any of his terms he will become more emboldened the next time, IMO.
I'd rather see, no deal, just take off the tariffs.
On the other hand, perhaps a bully is precisely what we need to secure our border and lessen the inflow of fentanyl.
Jesus said, "By their fruits you shall know them." And the benefits Trump's bullying are bestowing on our country's good are becoming more and more astounding. Trump reminds me of Israel's greatest king, David. David was a murderer and an adulterer; and yet, he is the only man in the Bible described as "a man aft er God's own heart." I wonder if Trump, despite his flaws, is God's chosen instrument to fight fentanyl, secure our border, and end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. Time will tell.

Apparently, there's more to the deal with Mexico than Trump mentioned. Trump has, per Claudia Sheinbaum, agreed to take action on the flow of US guns into Mexico. Since that's an issue for Canada, too, maybe that's something Trudeau can get into any agreement he reaches with the president.

When did a bully solve anything?
A bully, and certainly this bully, is in it for himself. He needs to appear superior. He needs others to lose. Nothing is mutually-beneficial - it's all a zero-sum game to a bully.
The US and Canada have many shared interests. The US is suddenly on the fentanyl bandwagon, which is great, but Canada supplies so little of the fentanyl in the US. Notice also that Trump is suddenly silent on the "trade imbalance" reason for the proposed tariffs. It was all bluster - all of it. Trump achieved nothing of value with the threats, and indeed caused widespread panic in markets and pricing of goods. All for a "win" that wasn't a win. It was only a win on Fox News to his base, who want to see a bully.

I'm just going to leave this here. I don't believe any commentary is required.
Don't underestimate the American people....they will protest, even if it's later than sooner. After all they became a country based on this premise when they separated from great Britain to embrace democracy.
Just now we are starting to hear the Democrats are finally speaking out and joining in protest against Trump and Musk.
