Good point. I seem to recall there was one letter from Paul to people he didn't actually know. Was it Romans?
Romans is a letter which seems to be a letter of introduction sent by Paul in preparation for his visit to the city yes

I was astounded to learn that Jews don't seek converts to their faith. I don't remember when I first realized this but it was some time ago.
But then Jesus can say this about the aggressive Jewish proselytizing of His day:
"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, bypoccrites! FOR YOU CROSS LAND AND SEA TO MAKE A SINGLE CONVERT, but you make the new convert twice as much as child of Hell as yourlseve (Matthew 23::15).."

What is the context here? We know there were competing sects/ movements within Judaism in the time of Jesus.

Snoopy's Snappy Review: Galatians 3:1-5

Snoopy notices that Paul has not told the Galatians exactly what they are supposed to believe.
Galatians 1:6-8: 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!

I'm surprised that paradox3 skpped over one of Paul's most important issues raised by the misguided Galatians.
Galatian Christianity quickly abandons mystical experience-based faith in favor of legalistic spirituality and ethical principles. Paul labels this inevitable transition as "foolish" and calls them out for forgetting and neglecting their prior expectations of Spirit-anointed experiences and miracles:

"Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh? Have you experienced so much in vain—if it really was in vain? So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard (Galatians 3:3-5)?"

The Christian fight for justice is ultimately spiritually inept unless it is energized by the experience of supernatural power:

"But I will come to you very soon, if the Lord is willing, and then I will find out not only how these arrogant people are talking, but what power they have. ;For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power (1 Corinthians 4:19-20)."

Thus, Christian preaching of the Gospel should be verified by manifestations of the power and demonstration of the Holy Spirit:

"And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in human wisdom, but in the power of God (1 Corinthians 2:4-5),"

Thus, Paul reminds us of "the signs and wonders" that verified his Gospel preaching to produce mass conversions from Jerusalem to Rome:

"When I was with you, I certainly gave you proof that I am an apostle. For I patiently did many signs and wonders and miracles among you (2 Cor. 12:12)."
"Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God. 1 will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done— by the power of signs and wonders, through the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ (Romans 15:17-19)."

Paul's success confirms Jesus' prediction that the power of His followers' ministry will even outperform His own ministry:

"Truly, truly I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father (John 14:12

"Truly, truly I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father (John 14:12)."

Global Pentecostals get this essential point in a way that mainline denominations don't. That's why eminent sociologist Peter Berger can call Pentecostalism "the most explosive r elgious phenomenon of all time."

Am still wanting to hear your answer about the goat when you get the chance. Take your time ✨

@Mystic
Please stay on topic. We are discussing Galatians at this time. You are straying into Paul's other letters, John's Gospel and finally into Global Pentecostalism. Let's get back to sharing our thoughts about Galatians.

Don't you realize that Paul's statements in Galatians need clarification from statements he makes elsewhere, statements you conveniently duck?

I am not ducking anything. I am interested in reading Paul's letters in order and gleaning what I can from them as I encounter each one.

And as I have already tried to explain, I have been told Paul's thinking shifts over time. So I am interested in tracking that.

And my postt 86 demonstrates that Paul's thinking on verification from '"miracles," "signs and wonders," and "the demonstration of the Spirit and of power: does NOT shift over time. |ndeed, the texts I quote clarify precisely what he means in Galatians. And you are ducking this corroborating evidence.

We have covered this ground already.
We will move on in the text tomorrow.

Galatians 3:6-29
In today's reading, Paul continues to explain his theology to the Galatians.

Abraham believed in God and was credited as righteous. The Israelites were given the Law to be their guardian until Christ.

In Christ Jesus, all are children of God through faith. All are one in Christ. If you belong to Christ, you are Abraham's descendants.

Snoopy's Snappy Review: Galatians 3:6-29

This guy Paul is a "One True Faith" sort of person, wouldn't you say?

Yours, Snoopy. :dog:

Paul is of the one true faith that is for sure -----

And he again makes clear that justification is through Faith in Christ and not by the works of the law ----
The Blessing of God come through Faith

The Curse comes through the works of the law---God gave the law to show Israel their sin ---so the law was never meant to bring the Jewish Nation to having God's approval

verse 12 AMP
12 But the Law does not rest on or require faith [it has nothing to do with faith], but [instead, the Law] says, “He who practices them [the things prescribed by the Law] shall live by them [instead of faith].”

Jesus redeemed us from the Curse of the Law by becoming a Curse for us -----the price jesus paid to get us out from under the Curse of the Law was sacrificing Himself

verse 13 AMP
Christ purchased our freedom and redeemed us from the curse of the Law and its condemnation by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs [crucified] on a tree (cross)”

So our Faith in receiving Jesus and what He accomplished on the Cross now redeems us from the Curse of the works of the law ----

Verse 22 AMP

22 But the Scripture has imprisoned everyone [everything—the entire world] under sin, so that [the inheritance, the blessing of salvation] which was promised through faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe [in Him and acknowledge Him as God’s precious Son]

We are all imprisoned under sin ---the only way to be freed from that and to receive the Blessings is to receive Jesus as your Lord and Saviour ----

The Law was given as a tutor or a schoolmaster to bring us to understand that we need a Saviour ----and that Saviour is Jesus -----who is the only one who can free us from the bondage of Sin which bring eternal death --

God said --

Just wanted to add this is hard to here Folks ----but it is the truth and the Truth sometimes is hard to take and hear ---but the Truth will set you Free ------

Paul's teaching in 3:27-28 addresses one of my favorite quotes from Billy Graham:
"Theological understanding is the booby prize because it offers just enough spirituality to inoculate you against the real thing."
By "the real thing, Dr. Graham meant a living intimate personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as is expressed in Galatians 3:27:

3"As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ."

As in his baptismal text in 2:19-20, Paul continues to stress baptism as a witness to an intimate personal relationship with Christ.
In the prior baptismal text, Paul celebrates this relationship with the phrase, "It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me."
In 3:27 our baptism attests our clothing ourselves with Christ. The practical implication is that God views us as mini-Christs in the making, so that no distinction in status or role can be drawn based on race/ ethnicity, social standing, or gender:

3:28: "Therefore, there is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female; for we are all one in Christ Jesus."

Among other thing, this means that in God's eyes a church leader might theoretically be a Black female slave. Thus, in Romans 16 Paul can celebrate female leaders like Phoebe, Priscilla, and the apostle Junia. So Galatians 3:27-2 8 is one of the most important NT texts for the agenda of Christian feminists.

Galatians 4
Paul reflects on his previous visit to the Galatians. He stopped in with them when he was physically broken. And they treated him kindly & heeded his message.

Now he feels like he has become their enemy. They are listening to false teachers and reverting to the Law. He implores them to return to the freedom of life in God offered through Christ.
