After playing the role of Santa for a couple of days, I'd like to grow my own beard by this time next year, instead of the fake kind held on by elastic.

Alas, beard growth's something that for me has always seemed out of reach.

My dad grew a nice long, full grey beard that matched well his profession as a stage magician.

My young brother, a university prof, has grown a short, nicely trimmed beard.

It seems they got the good genes. All I've ever been able to grow is stubble.

Is there any way to go beyond genetics? Are there any miracle cures for beardlessness? Is there any special ointment, oil, cream or suppository that will promote beard growth?

It is endogenous, part of the limbic system and that is complex so likely you would wish to NOE!

There that's out there ... BPD? Hairy huh ...

Not sure I have much to offer. I just got lazy and my girlfriend, aka the eventual Mrs.M., suggested that instead of sporting three days growth, I just let it grow out. That was c. 1991 and I have had a beard of varying length ever since. I sometimes wish I had a finer, longer beard so I could braid it like a favourite musician of mine used to but I am not actively trying.

I get to "homeless" status in less than a week and it stays there for a month. It's annoying as hell.

How long did it take to grow out?

Yobo hates whiskers. If I go three days without shaving, which is something that I've recently done, she, er, strongly suggests to me that I must shave

Is hairy more frightening that hairless?

Did you know that hairy was once an expression for phobia? May have led to an evolution ... but some folk cannot stand change and still it grows ... life gets hairier and harrier ... hared? Difficult to take ... like Harrod and that young dancer ... rye as jai bode!

I started growing a beard this past November for Movember. I was going to shave it off at the end of November but decided to keep it. Maybe I will shave it off at the end of winter. BTW it is a goatee instead of a full beard that I am sporting. Even though it is grey or should I say silver it actually suits me. It takes the attention away from my bald head lol. Finally starting to get use to having that much hair on my face. It was very annoying for the first month of growth.

Did you just let it grow? How'd you go beyond the stubble stage

Yes I just let it grow. I think it is due for a trim. Finally starting to get use to it. I was ready to shave it off a few times because it felt so unnatural, but I toughed it out. I grew a beard only one other time and that was about 15 years ago. I shaved it off after a month's growth.

I have been trying to grow a beard since puberty, however, it doesn’t seem to happen. Now, since menopause, I get the occasional long hair on my chin, but I never had the chance to become a real beard Santa.
