Interesting. I've usually seen this portrayed as a trio of Maiden, Mother, Crone (e.g. Neil Gaiman has the three fates appear as this trio in The Sandman). Adding the "lover" stage is an interesting variant. Nice.
Usually is only the 3 - especially in Celtic lore. Other set of 4 has maiden, mother, queen, crone. Can't remember where I saw the version with Lover but it does make a bit more sense in terms of lifetime

Its what comes 4th after the MOG ... sort of like the bite o toutha dannan! Said to be a myth by those not yet bidden ... doesn't bode well!
