First raspberries of the season (my raspberry patch is a mess!)

I've been picking a few strawberries for a while now...only got 7 saskatoons this year.

Saskatoon berry is one I have never tried. We don't have them here in Ontario that I know of. Next time I'm out West, I guess.

They are the best! Better than blueberries

I LOVE raspberries and we have a couple of ice cream pails picked already. These will be added to some saskatoons and tonight's supper will be crepes with berries and cottage cheese. The blueberries are'nt ready yet but we have ordered three pails from our favourite picker. We just don't seem to have much luck with finding good patches and our picker knows where they grow best. He is a great forager and also picks mushrooms for cash. There are Haskaps in the freezer too. No one seems to have a good crop of strawberries around here for some reason.

I got a doz haskups this year - first year I've gotten fruit off the bush (2 yrs old). Not sure I'll have enough raspberries to freeze this year off my canes. Crapes sound yummy!

Our haskaps seem to produce well every year. The biggest challenge is getting them before the birds. One of our sons has started hundreds of new bushes as he hopes this will help provide income in the future. We left a thriving orchard when we sold our farm, if it will grow here we had lots of it!

Mmm, those crepes sound good. Had some nice dessert crepes on my last cruise but they were nothing fancy, just a freshly made crepe with a couple fillings like chocolate and berries.

There's a winery in Prince George that makes nice wines out of haskap berries, blueberries, maybe Saskatoons. Their wines are quite nice.

I can always tell how much we are getting. At work there's a drain thing under my floor that starts hissing and spitting if the rain gets really heavy.
