As a music teacher, I'm always interested in what genres of music people enjoy listening to. Who knows, you might even discover a new genre. I myself listen to dark ambient, classical, rock, deathcore and heavy metal. What's your genre(s) of choice?

What's death core and dark ambient?

Deathcore is like heavy metal but much, much heavier. Dark ambient is hard to describe but it involves lots of sustained notes, very slow moving melodies (if any melodies at all) and cinematic effects. Lots of minor keys as well. A lot of times the composers create their own sounds. That's a nutshell description.

I should also add that I love pipe and drum bands. The bagpipes are close to my heart as a Scotsman.

I grew up with a mother who was a trained soprano. She loved opera. My father liked country and rock. His tastes were broader. I enjoy a variety of music and love almost any kind of live music. I've sung in choirs so love oratorios and choral music in general.

If I had to pick favourites, they'd be folky or folk rock and maybe Broadway.

I'm also thankful to have had many awesome music teachers in my life. My life is better as a result

I'm also reminded of a past client. He was a late teen who wore black and hung around the skate park. He loved the darker punk or rock type music. He brought in a CD and we talked about the lyrics. They were amazing poetry. It was a great way to connect.

I somehow got into metal about 4 years ago after being rather meh on it much of my life. Now listen to an increasingly diverse mix of symphonic, power, melodeath, metalcore, and some classic heavy metal. A bit of black, death, and deathcore but they don't resonate as much with me.

Beyond that, I have fairly broad tastes in music. Prog, classical, jazz, some pop, folk, blues. Really, now that I am into metal, country is almost my only no go zone.

I, too, listen to almost everything except country. I love bluegrass though. I listen preferentially to classical, messing with time zones on CBC to get nine hours total of Tempo and About Time most days.

I've come to appreciate a lot of country music after marrying the son of a man who was in a country band at one point and after having lived in the BC Peace for many years.

I might have if I'd ever been exposed to it, but it never happened.

Big guy likes generic 70-80 rock, which is easy background for me. He is getting used to Loreena McKennit and the
Goldberg variations.
