We watched a movie called, " I Care Alot" on Netflix.
About a group of caretakers that target the elderly with money and arrange for a doctor to pronounce them unsuitable to live alone. The "caretakers" are given power of attorney and sell their houses and take control of their assets through the courts without the elderly person present.
Of course its fiction and ridiculously lacking in truth, but it does make one think..
Hmmm, could it ever come to that?
I'd say a 6 out of 10, wont get an Oscar nomination but it was okay.
We also watched this recently. Chilling.

The next night we watched San Andreas, about a major earthquake event. We enjoyed the clever job of filming it - presumably with models of the areas involved. However, the scene that had two people swimming underwater for endless minutes seemed quite silly.

We also watched I Care A Lot this week. Definitely chilling! @KayTheCurler

Some of the character development was over the top but the basic premise was very believable.

Trying out the Canal 1 production "War of the Worlds" again. It take its title from H. G. Wells' classic novel (one of my all time favorites) but so far, the only connection to Wells seems to be being about an alien invasion. The invasion isn't even heat ray spewing tripods (at least not yet). That said, it has lasted three seasons and picked up some decent to good reviews and I haven't watched a good alien invasion flick in eons. Available on Gem.

Just found out that Fawlty Towers is coming.
They absolutely need to bring back the sign though. "Farty Towels" was my favourite.

I saw that one too and I concur. I got very worried I would not like the ending. Won't spoil it further.
As for if it could ever come to that, it think it may be like "The Handmaid's Tale" in that no one will take it seriously until it's too late. It's already very lucrative in the private sector. It's a business first and foremost. Not too far-fetched in my opinion.

We just finished watching Thunder Bay on Crave. It was an excellent documentary. It is a must watch if you want to learn about systemic racism. I will have to process some of this. There was some very disturbing things in it. I can only imagine how an Indigenous person would respond since it is not unique to TB.

Pieces of a Woman is thought provoking and gripping. Not for the faint hearted.

We watched it yesterday on Netflix. It has its odd moments

We've been watching an older British series called "Shetland" - based on novels of crime writer Ann Cleeves; on BrittBox & Apple TV I think. Each book unfolds in two one hour episodes of the series. Different murder, same core characters. Enjoying it a lot & gradually coming to understand the brogue! Subtitles are helpful :-) Amazing landscapes. In the last episode we heard someone say the ferry ride 'to the mainland' is 12 hours! That was surprising, so we had to look up a map to see exactly where it's located - way north - about parallel with Oslo, Norway!

Watched The Impossible yesterday. It was okay but I found it bleak.

Also returned to Pieces of a Woman to rewatch the opening scene

We're watching News of the World on Netflix right now. Tom Hanks plays a man who travels from town to town spreading news. He rescues an orphan and takes her to family. It's very good so far.

Last night during the snowstorm we watched, Promising Young Woman.
Without going into too much detail it's about a 30 year old woman who dropped out of medical school because her friend was gang raped by her colleagues without repercussions.
She basically takes the law into her own hands and the ending will surprise you.
Carrie Mulligan won an Oscar for this movie for Best Actress...IMO well deserved...
I enjoyed it and certainly is provocative in some regards.

Now we're watching French Exit with Michelle Pfeiffer. It's different but interesting. Somewhat slow paced and intellectual.

Attention Gardeners! Stumbled upon this great Cdn series - Visionary Gardeners - a balm for the winter weary gardener's soul! Broadcasts on Vision TV here, and you can watch online too I think. Episode 102 features Adrienne Clarkson & John Ralston Saul tending their sacred home garden; Episode 103 features an incredible day lily gardener who's in my general neighbourhood - had the overwhelming experience of visiting his property on a garden tour a few years ago (@JayneWonders - you may recognize)
