I'm feeling a little more optimistic about the numbers. There was a significant drop in new cases today. I had expected to see more of a gradual decline with the previous set of restrictions. Fingers crossed it's not just noise and daily numbers will stay under 1500 for the province and go even lower.

I use two layers of high count quilting cotton plus an inner layer of unwoven interfacing. My personal take is that nothing readily available is guaranteed and most people are doing 'something' which is better than nothing. Kids are bound to pull at their masks, or remove them when no one is looking.
 
Trump wants to go down in history for killing the most people on death row than ever before. Initially, Texas had stopped executions during the pandemic because it was not considered “essential service”.

My colleague’s sister is about to give birth in a hospital in Montreal. She has to wear a mask! I can’t even imagine wearing a mask during exercising let alone giving birth. I don’t understand why they don’t just do a quick test.

Even if she tested negative, she may be surrounded by nurses and doctors that may have been exposed....even asymptomatic. I agree, it won't be great but probably a good idea to wear the mask IMO.....and personally, if everything goes well, it might be a good idea to get home asap after giving birth if things go smoothly.

When I got my port removed in September I had to wear a mask the entire time. Of course I wasn't doing anything strenuous like having a baby so it is a bit different. They lifted the mask away from my face when they took my temperature and when they put the "just in case" oxygen under my nose. I still had the mask on when they draped my head for the procedure. I was sure glad to take that mask off after five hours.
 
My niece didn’t have to wear a mask to have her baby in London , ontario, but only hubby could be in hospitql with her. That’s not too unusual. Most unusual was they couldn’t leave their room and they had to bring their own food as the hospital was not letting serving trays into the floor. Out in about 24 hours

It heats up pretty hot though - before it pushes air out.

They had trouble minding my space before. They technically broke the law several times - which I ignored - by coming in randomly which is a breach of privacy at the best of times. If they were not extended family, just landlords I don't know, they'd be reported. One of these days some tenant will do so - so good they've got me here keeping their socks pulled up! Lol. Now they ask ahead. So I have no problem that this law helps me keep boundaries. The issue is, as annoying as it's been they are family and I do love them quirks n' all. I would like to share Christmas. They usually, we all usually, have a party at my mom and step dads on Christmas Eve.

I'm not sure why people with no foreseeable complications don't go the midwife/home birth route. I couldn't have, because I have a couple of conditions that routinely might require interference. I would have liked to have done so; I think it can be a lovely experience if you have uncomplicated births.
 
I have been to too many births where all hell has broken loose at the end to ever advise that myself. But ......

I am not sure why the food thing. I think it was so they limited people on the floor. I know two moms this summer who had to do it. Strange rule

Of course you have. I think midwife mediated home births have to be both very carefully vetted, AND with easy access to hospital facilities.

I have some erratic blood pressure problems when I'm pregnant; otherwise, I would have been just as happy at home. My third was born 2 hours after the onset of labour, and that's just a little impossible when you live in the country.

Sometimes the reasons behind rules are a bit convoluted. Our rules in the store seem a bit random, at times, as various individuals translate the ever-changing rules.
 
I agree that so many of the current rules are odd. Stores can’t have people inside. But big stores can. I feel for all the small stores

this week I actually went into a store and bought blue jeans. It was a strange experience after so many months
 
I think homebirths overall are a bad idea, just because of how quickly things can go bad and medical intervention be needed ASAP. I think the midwife non-complicated birthing suites connected to a hospital are a good idea.
With how hospitals are right now though I much more understand those going the homebirth route, especially considering the limited access to the hospital connection, most of the time the choice is hospital or home, not a lot of in between.
 
Yeah, well, if you'd ever gone exactly 2 hours from 0 to birth, ya'd be appreciating the potential for home birth. I'm one of those women who get pregnant easily, and give birth as if it were a quick natural process (I understand very few are so lucky). In the "Call the Midwife" days before birth control, I would have been that mother of 25 kids... Such women should not live in the country, nor have due dates that coincide with snow storms. My daughter's birth is recorded in the annals of my memory as "well, this could have gone sideways".

Even with a super fast birth though, a newborn might need to be resuscitated for a variety of reasons. When we can, I think it's best to have all of the available equipment available.
It's similar to how some drugs are only administered in hospital for the first time, due to the number of reactions. It's still a small number, but easier to deal with for those few if in hospital and can save lives.

Yeah, I wonder if it's just the hospital isn't prepared enough with 'to go' sort of style as opposed to drop off and pick up? One would think they would have preparations done though. Maybe depends on the individual hospital though.
