So, a private member's bill is now before the legislature here in Ontario to put Ontario permanently on DST. BC has done similar and, of course, Saskatchewan was the original "no time change" province.

I actually did a poll here in 2018 on the subject. See link below for the results and the discussion. For fun, here's the same poll. Wonder if we'll get anything different?

I didn't mind DST when it ran from April to October. It sort of made sense then. However, this foolishness goes on too long. (Thank you, George Dubya...) and whatever benefits in saving coal it may have had years ago are largely irrelevant now.

I'd rather have a bit of extra light at the end of the day rather than the beginning. It's dark in the morning anyway. When the sun sets at 5pm, another hour would be nice.

I personally would prefer standard time all year round. A few reasons

1. As a question of principle, I prefer the clock to be in sync with the sun instead of being ahead by one hour.

2. Currently, most people on fixed schedules (including me when I worked in the office) work way too early for daylight time. I know days are short in Winter, but I like to wake up in daylight, have time for breakfast and travel to work . And although I also like to have some daylight in the evening, I don't really mind the dusk.
With our current sunlight, a good work schedule would require starting work at 9:00 or 9:30 a.m., instead of 8:30 as it is currently.

If we were to keep the current alternance, the best would be to use daylight savings time only from early or mid-April (Easter weekend perhaps?) until Labour Day. In both cases, the time change would not be so bad (especially in Spring) because it would occur when people would still wake up with daylight.
