It actually is a good time to build pipelines. People need work. Eventually we will need oil. And we are held to ransom by oil w buy from Saudi and elsewhere

there was an article in the weekend, that I cant find now, that spoke to the changes in oil use we have seen since the lock downs began. And it highlighted the issue that environmentalist need to stop fighting the idea of getting oil out of the ground and instead focus on decreasing demand.

Look how fast we moved to change factories purposed for one industry to answer a need during COVID.
I think its possible to change the car and travel industry alot faster than we thought.
The time to get away from oil is now IMO.

I agree. but we now have an issue of transport. I certainly won’t be getting on a bus or subway when I am in Toronto. Not for a very long time. So that means drivers.
I think the answer will be more working from home for sure

Now is the time but anyone who can do anything to move that forward is also impeded by covid. Shady politicians and big monied interests are going to try, and have the power to get away with it, to use the public's impotence to their advantage. It's going to end up a red herring to make excuses and we have to be vigilant about paying attention to the actual statistical and practical threat from the virus in each of our communities.

The powers of the time also used war measures to reform factories during (and prior to in preparation) WW2, and to subdue the public with patriotic propaganda to prepare for war - in all the countries involved. It's just something to be mindful of. It's not a typical war but they can still use it to their advantage and create collateral damage while perusing their economic and geopolitical interests. There will be collateral casualties as a result of this if we dont look at the bigger picture. There are a lot of catastrophes in the world that the powerful and well protected can leverage to their advantage. WW2 happened on the heels of the Great Depression, and we're headed for another one. I hate the thought, but I can't help that my eyes are open to the possibility.

There was a LOT of misinformation in that film. It was a real slagging of the environmental movement.

A whole bunch of the information in Moore's film is VERY dated. Look at German engineering breakthroughs in solar panels, solar materials, solar panel management, storage, inverters, etc. in the just the last 5 years.

Agreed, you need some fossil fuel technology for modern manufacturing. But you don't need nearly as much as we use. NOT making plastics out of bio materials, would be a good example. Not using plastic, for completely frivolous purposes, like frigging water bottles, would be another huge change.

Honestly, Bill McKibben is a hero of the environmental movement, and no s**t thrown at him has ever stuck. I admired Michael Moore until this film; I'm pretty disillusioned with the dishonesty of his reporting. now, and I doubt Moore will get my admiration back. My dad was an early grass roots environmentalist. We recycled and composted, and repaired, long before it was fashionable.

I think we have an issue of supporting innovation and research with grants. Look at spacex and how its changing space travel when governments get behind it.(not that I agree with what they're doing) Or even a search for a vaccine.
I really think we're capable of a 5 or 10 year plan that would encourage scrapping our cars/or converting them (resurrection without a new body lol) and introducing a new product. Our railways are ancient anyway and focusing on a revamp in stages could replace some air travel.

But we"re not thinking outside of the box.....but someone somewhere is.

Have they figured out how to put the sun high in the sky over Canada in the winter???

michael Moore just took the red pill.
You re thinking like a real estate agent not an inventor. I'm not either but my mind and heart is open to new ideas.
Let's remember 100 years before cars,etc....someones creative mind brought another idea into fruition.

I live in the real world, people who pretend they are in Neverland are a danger to humanity. You cannot shut off energy without a reliable alternative without massive dying. There is not enough wind or solar available in Canada in the winter to sustain Canadians. Simple fact. Join reality.

But those aren't the only alternatives. How come Moore didn't even mention geo-thermal energy? Many Canadians, in many cold places, heat quite efficiently using a heat pump. I live in the real world, too.

You better hope thats true for future generations when all the oil fields dry up....or will they totally be unprepared like we were for COVID even though they've been saying for years a pandemic was due?
