Oh, and people are not allowed to walk their dogs. The recommendation a couple of weeks ago, was to just let them out (and hope they come back I guess? Or not?) “People before dogs.” So, there’s now an increase in feral dogs in the street, which is sad. I’m afraid to think of how that’s being dealt with.
I saw a funny clip somewhere recently of somebody lowering their dog down from their balcony to do it's business! Works for small dogs ...

So the nursing home in Bobcaygeon was unable to isolate their patients due to lack of space, now with all of the deaths within, they are more able to isolate the other patients from one another.
Now in other news but related to the above, some of the children who have parents living in long term/retirement communities want to take their parents home because these places have become a hotspot for COVID. If they were allowed to do so, this would provide a decent space between patients that had to stay and less risk for becoming infected....but instead they have been told that if they remove their parents from the facility even for one night, their possessions will be packed up and put in storage and they will have to go on the "short" waiting list once again. They think all empty beds must be filled.
Seems counterproductive to me.

The situations in LTC is so sad. It is a huge thing to remove somebody from such a situation - I know you (@Waterfall) can appreciate the level of skilled hands on care those folks usually require on a 24/7 basis. Filling empty beds is usual protocol - agree with you that perhaps this might have been suspended. Placing someone is such a stressful decision for many families at the best of times, can't even imagine what that's like at the moment. Compassion is sorely needed.

Bonanza! I got hand sanitizer this morning. First time I've seen a bottle - besides what I made with rubbing alcohol - in months. The supermarket by me got a shipment and they're keeping it behind the customer service desk by special request. I found out because I've become buddies with a couple of staff outside on their breaks.

And last night - yes I was out for a spin in my neighbourhood - I went by the pizza take out place. They were busy cleaning and it was empty but the door was propped open. I popped my head in the door to ask if I could get a slice and they could bring it outside and keep social distance/ quick transaction (I had cash and I know other places are doing that - or bringing their wireless debit machines out ) they gave it to me for free, he reached out wearing gloves, put 2 big slices in the box popped into my scooter basket with plenty of space - because the staff forgot they were closing early and had made extra.

And Subway (sandwiches) near me is open. I have not gone in. I see that the tables are still in there but I think it's just open for take out and delivery. Subway is in a medical building - probably staying open for staff in the building. I'd prefer to avoid it (like the plague?) anyway.

i hope I have pasted the correct link. An article in The Atlantic about what and when things happened in the usa

i expect we will shortly here the same time lines about Canada and where they dropped the ball

What is a leader that cannot accept responsibility? What are they in the position for?

Let us face that humanity is imperfect ... and god is supposedly forgiving to those accepting the implications of their work and job.

For those that do not take credit for mistakes ... what then? Good news thus breaks into what bad news bares ... ineffective leadership?

Some can take the flack some don;t ... thus just denial of mostly everything ...

When doing such an analysis, it's important to recognize that the luxury of hindsight is in operation. I do think doing a post-event analysis is important - if the objective is learning, not finger pointing & casting blame upon those who likely did the best they could in a difficult situation. That being said, in some situations there is blatant disregard for facts and evidence ... the learning there is quite different.

I agree. The post SARS review was intended to prevent it happening again. And yet. It did

i think important dates and what happened when will be interesting. Trump was informed of the virus issues on Jan 3. So when did we know that this was a big issue. Fore or after we sent all our stuff to China. If we knew, why didn’t we stock up ASAP. Instead of hospitals now scrambling

a review will tell us that. It will also tell us how much quantity of supplies we actually need on hand at any one time

I heard Trudeau on the CBC this morning talking about all the ventilators he's ordered, around 30,000. Someone asked if maybe that was too much, but he said even if we don't need that many this time then maybe the next time. And we would be able to help other countries someday too.
So good on him to act when everyone is motivated to act....now is the time.
