Novel Coronavirus

Hubby and I are being quite wary as we are both over 65 and have underlying conditions. Just decided this morning that I would go to the optometrist - who are very aware and sanitizing as well as they can between patients. I really don't think I want to wait until the summer to get glasses - I am totally tired of not being able to see! Also decided that we will skip tomorrow's pot luck supper. At the moment we will continue to consider each activity and make a decision.

My choir has been cancelled until at least the end of the month. I suspect the season will be totally cancelled.

In BC, family case conferences at court are being cancelled. I'm worried this will also happen in Ontario. My father and his wicked ex-wife are schedulled for court in April. This should be an easy divide of assets. She is saying he's not entitled even after 40+ years of marriage and her living off his salary. The sad thing is she has a lawyer who is supporting this. Hopefully if it is cancelled, things can be sorted out another way.

I can understand the worries that something bigger is going on. I might entertain those thoughts if my immune system was fine or if I hadn't just finished the year I did. Hearing that Alberta schools have been closed indefinitely is a "this s**t is real" moment. It might be the most realistic response considering the circumstances. "Indefinitely" might be only a few weeks or this is it for the school year. The executive for the choir I'm in is discussing options. They reached out to get choir members' feedback. I suspect it may be done for the year. Sadly.

On a more positive note, I got some reorganizing done at home today.
I read that they hadn't been closed, but if they did it would be indefinitely.

I am not a big fan of potlucks under the best of circumstances. But I go along with them when they take place at church.
I don't mind small ones. The smaller, better you generally know who's bringing what - the safer.
I'm more afraid of food poising than this virus. I've had food poisoning a few times - near did me in once I had no fluid left in my body. I'm so afraid of food poisoning I won't eat things a day past the date - don't care if it's the sell by or eat by date...whatever date is on there I'll almost never eat past it. I'm annoyingly obsessive about that actually. But this virus doesn't scare me half as much. The reaction to it does.

I'm worried this will also happen in Ontario.

Haven't heard anything about family court. Juried trials are now suspended, though. Having been in a jury selection recently, I can safely say this is a good thing. The room was packed until they finally started weeding people out and selecting.

I'm hoping that if it is cancelled they will have another way to sort it out. This is something that can be done by teleconference.

I think people are going to find that a lot of things can be done by online and phone conferencing. Not sure if Zoom is public but if they are, their stock is a buy right now.

I'm expecting a lot of things will change because of this. I'm impressed by some of the out of the box thinking that's happening. Here's hoping that will benefit us all after this is done.

@DaisyJane, thinking of you and Matthew and your family right now. I hope you can feel the arms of godde cradling you right now.

I worked 8-1 today. Place was a lunatic asylum. Normally, Monday mornings I work on gum/candy bars, or another make-work project like cleaning baskets. Not today. When I left, both the Grocery Manager, and the owner of the store had spent time on cash, and the shelves, some of which looked almost normal this morning, were once again looking sadly empty. Apparently, all delivery trucks are now running 28 hours behind schedule, so no frozen food til late tomorrow, if then. And my friggin hands from all the disinfectant spray and hand sanitizer. First thing I did when I got home was painted "new skin" on the new cracks...

And my newest interest, the ukulele club, has been put on hiatus for a while. The one critter who is going to be happy about this is Lucy, as I suspect she'll be getting some extra walks...

So @Ritafee are you suggesting all this response to the virus is a hoax? Some kind of plot?
“Let's face it. We live in a command-based system, where we have been programmed since our earliest school years to become followers, not individuals. We have been conditioned to embrace teams, the herd, the masses, popular opinion -- and to reject what is different, eccentric or stands alone. We are so programmed that all it takes for any business or authority to condition our minds to follow or buy something is to simply repeat a statement more than three or four times until we repeat it ourselves and follow it as truth or the best trendiest thing. This is called "programming" -- the frequent repetition of words to condition us how to think, what to like or dislike, and who to follow.”

You didn't answer my question @Ritafee

I am at risk with a compromised immune system. I had pneumonia in June. I do not want to experience worse. Suggesting this is all some kind of hoax or government control thing pisses me off.

It sounds like you are looking for a reason to be pissed off. I am following the money like I always do when these 'programs' hit the mainstream. If you are more vulnerable to a bad reaction to the 'virus' then by all means I respect your priorities. I have not in any way shape or form suggested that you or anyone else that could be compromised by 'any' virus should take unnecessary risks. First priority for available health care should go to the compromised ... I have never said different. I have never said that the virus itself is a hoax. We are all in this together ... I am more inclined to look at the whole picture ... connecting dots as I go. If that offends you then so be it ... it does not in any way shape or form prohibit you from acting or reacting as you see fit. I am a self isolating person by nature ... the world does not have to fear me spreading the virus. The virus has changed nothing for me with regard to my 'health' protocol. I was not a threat before the virus and I am not a threat now. If this is the dominant news de jour I will follow it in my own fashion and you can follow it in yours. If you are suggesting that I should not be allowed to share my perspectives on this thread ... then by all means ... report me ... ban me ... or ignore me. Your choice.

I am not looking for reasons to be pissed off. I do believe it is irresponsible to ignore the effects of this. Of course express your opinion. I know you don't expect people to agree with everything you say. The trouble is, many people are expressing similar views and are continuing to gather in large groups. That is putting people at risk.

The virus itself isn't a hoax.its a real virus. I think there could be a government(s) control element to this. That doesn't mean immune compromised people are not at more risk. They are. It's both/ and, imo.
