What I don't understand is how, with all of this continual drama, on all sides, all the time, any damn work gets done?

The impeachment proceedings are part of their job. An important part of it ( if it resembles a sandbox - Trump's side is not playing fair). Otherwise, if they can't be in two places at once, they delegate to their deputies and staff.
Trump wasn't there and he's not likely to ever testify - he did sign the new NAFTA agreement today, though.

Was doing some research on emotions today ... it appears authorities cannot agree on how many there are ... thus leaving an emotional chaos to counter the intellectual dissonance ... it rises like the thorn of a ros ... maybe eros? Love is a pain to explain why god is off in a differing world ... looking at life from beyond it! Be the death of meis ... understanding far out humus ...

Trump has the White House. Republicans have the Senate. For the first two years of this administration, they had the House.
During the 2016 campaign, the chant was, "Lock her up!" Hillary was a criminal, they said. They would investigate her, they said. She will wind up in jail, they said.
They investigated. They had all the power. Hillary Clinton has not been charged with anything. She has not because it would be embarrassing for them to try and fail spectacularly in court.
Who *is* in jail? Multiple people from Trump's campaign. Many of who chanted "Lock her up!" with Trump.
I mean, you can't make this s**t up. Donald Trump is surrounded by crooks. He talks like a mobster. He can't get a bank loan from American banks because they don't trust him, he gropes women because he can, he makes fun of people with disabilities, he won't show anyone his tax returns, he profits from his presidency by having foreign governments and US staff stay at his properties, and he tries to strong arm foreign governments to help him smear his domestic political rivals, among many other personal failures and criminal activities. None of the above is in doubt. The new defense at the impeachment is that Trump can pressure Ukraine to announce an investigation into Biden's son because it's in the country's interest to re-elect Trump. This is how far the goal line has moved.
The House has pushed the goal line back that far. This is where they're at now: To the point where the White House lawyers are arguing the president can do anything to get himself re-elected.
And when it's a Democrat in the White House again, what will Republicans say then?
The House has been slaughtered? They just got the president to all but admit to what everybody knows and what a bunch of witnesses are willing to say under oath in front of the Senate, should they be called. His last line of defense is that it's not illegal and not impeachable because nothing a president does is illegal. That's the only standard under which Trump is not guilty - one where anything he does is immediately legal because he's the president. That's the sort of claim made by a king or a dictator.
Even if the Senate dismisses the impeachment, the House has already won in that everyone knows what Trump has done. His guilt in the eyes of history is secure. Now it's just about how many Republicans will be complicit in refusing to acknowledge it. And what lasting damage it will cause when the next president, Democrat or Republican, breaks the law and uses the same defense.
With absolute power now in his hands he can do anything he wants ... the death of democracy and any inhibition to power!
One has to believe there is a sub set of value to power so we can regress out of this overblown power state ... hum bubs?

Not to sound too alarmist, but let's not forget that Roman leaders like Caesar and his adopted heir Octavian (aka Augustus, the first emperor) started out holding constitutional offices and then extended their power in various ways. And Trump is no Augustus, who was at least an intelligent, competent leader even if he was autocratic. Trump strikes me as more of a Tiberius or even Nero. It is absolutely essential that the Americans learn from history and nip this guy in the bud.

It's unfortunate, but these days the Democrats need a good looking and charismatic leader coupled with intelligence (which they don't have).....Americans have become basically shallow and don't seem to care about issues anymore as much as they desire a movie star and super hero quality that appears is going to save them. They just don't realize they need saving from themselves. Trump seems to realize that the general public has a mind frame that spans 15 minutes at a time and any profound issues that arise with his presidency is forgotten within two days.......probably even the impeachment process.
There are so many profound issues that have arisen with Trump it is hard for even the most astute people to keep track of. That's a big part of his game plan, I think - baffle people with copious amounts of bs day in and day out so they get exhausted from paying attention and they only remember his catch phrases.

Question is read at the 5:28 mark:Except they took too long...they elected him, while most of the rest of the world saw this potentially happening. They should've invoked the 25th amendment 3 yrs ago. But, I suppose Pence being potentially worse (worse and smarter) was his "insurance policy". That reminds me...Guliani. Why are Americans tolerating the fact that he, non elected personal lawyer to Trump, was brokering these meetings with foreign governments and such - acting as a defacto Secretary of State (shadow government - uhm, hello? I thought the right had a serious problem with shadow government...but not where Guliani's concerned) ?
Chansen's right. You can't make this stuff up. It's stunning. There's no point in Hollywood making a political thriller/ drama about corruption in Washington because we're getting a daily soap opera already. And, not for several years after Trump is gone...because everybody's too tired of it.
