The modern Western Christians who complain about persecution simply because they can't dominate the conversation, while being able to openly go to church and preach from their cozy pulpits, are really belittling the very real persecution those of their faith have faced, and do face, in other times and places. They are insulting people like Stephen and Paul who died for their faith in real persecutions.

I still love how the bible tells you to believe stupid things and then predicts people will make fun of you for it. Then when people make fun of your stupid beliefs, you celebrate because you think that's some kind of confirmation.
Reminds me of some of the arguments that are used to support the verity of the bible.

How do we know the OT is true? Because it predicts events which take place in the New Testament.

How do we know the NT is true? Because it fulfills the prophecies of the Old Testament, of course.

Remember that only Christians have the right to the hyperbole about sending people to hell because of insecurity about what ironic parables stand for without depth of understanding to love ... if only for the abstract factor! Thus the metaphor of hate to stir up mental conflicts!

I yam told that mental things are imaginary and truly unreal ...

Can a mental condition get far enough out to surround that cognizance (sometime apocalyptic)!

Words; poorly digested by the quick and rush 'n ... what could trump that conjecture?

Can you say "circular logic?"
The beauty of it is, it makes convincing some types of people relatively easy.
The problem is, it doesn't take into account 'minor details' like reality, historical studies, literary analysis, cultural difference factors, or facts.
Just sayin'....

Dizzying go rounds support blinding love as the stunning storm begins the onset and the sting proceeds ... leaving old salts in the leigh ... leah ... Oloah?

If surviving the grit you will be worn and polished ... black christianity as darker emotions in the night'skye? Me I like the mystery of indigo 's blues ... and Ur crying in the reins ... meis Muse? Some say there are 9 in myth ... catty or just Kathryn ?

Urs Ala ... reined in by the thorn ... the stinger goes on ... mysteriously soe ... all that's tuff we find difficult ... stonewallers?

JUst now I was reading a blog by an artist I follow (Marla Bagetta) - and she wrote this - which seems what the author of that article I posted earlier was also saying - so twice in a few days this message has come to me ... interesting.

As we move through our everyday lives, we seldom let ourselves look through an unfiltered view of things. We filter everything we see, do and say through a lens of past experience and what we think we know. We often look through a lens of fear and insecurity that holds us back from seeing things as they truly are.

Interestingly the quote from Galatians 6: 7 is lifted out of the context in which it is placed and used as a proof-text to attack others.

Does that not make a mockery of the text? By claiming that scripture justifies the proof-texting do we not end up mocking God by placing words in God's mouth which God did not speak?

Galatians 6: 1 NRSV said:
My friends,] if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness.

This spirit of gentleness, what does it look like? Is it cryptic attacks on others without identifying who they are or engaging them directly at the source of their transgression? For example, suppose I witness a neighbour of mine assaulting another neighbour would the spirit of gentleness counsel me to intervene as gently as possible right then and right there or, would the spirit of gentleness drive me home to the internet where I can enjoy some anonymity and post in various discussion boards about how folk ought not to assault one another?

Does the spirit of gentleness yell? EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS THAT ALL CAPS IS THE TEXTUAL EQUIVALENT OF YELLING RIGHT?

Does the spirit of gentleness prove itself by its ability to underline and/or make bold the text?

Does the spirit of gentleness go public asap or does it inhabit the pm?

Contrary to the most literal reading of the Galatians 8: 7 text it seems to me more than obvious that it is ridiculously easy to mock God. Which may not be a wise path to take. Unless God is somehow more mature than many of God's defenders. And we should be wary about the meaning of reaping and sowing, unless we are slipping grace the finger and saying we don't need God's help we are perfectly capable of helping ourselves.

Still, interesting to look at a text and see what leaps out for various readers.

This clearly notices the difference between the living word and the scripture pointing to that word. To say scripture is the living word of God misses the mark. Sad to think of those who refuse God’s living word which inspired the scripture, preferring the dead letter.
