We are told the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament are the same, yet the OT God seems to be capable of doing what would be considered bad if we were to do it. This is explained away by many of us having learned to say, "God's ways, are not our ways."

Christians proclaim God as synonymous with love, yet it seems to destroy the world and most who are in it, is not very loving.....but again it is explained away by saying we were being punished for our disobedience, which is to be accepted as a form of love.

There are consequences for our actions, much like our parents would invoke if we misbehaved or criminals would receive for their actions, but still, shouldn't a God that is considered purely love be above all that?
Humans are capable of invoking justice or consequences.

God is love and where we would want to reside when we die but how can a God that punishes and kills even live in Heaven? So is the God we worship always Good IYO? Or are we worshiping the wrong God?

I don't know. The New Testament seems to argue for filicide, so we'd have to include the "god" of both in our analysis.

OTOH, I believe that Godde is everything. That means good as well as bad. Things gotta die for other things to live. The circle of life is not un-bloody

Because of his love, I believe, God is far more just than any of our parents are.

He is, imho.

Not everyone here worships the same God Waterfall. Indeed, some do not worship at all.

He God of the NT is a newer iteration of God. More likeable. More sympathetic. The vengeance is still there, but now it happens after you're dead, and it's eternal.

Yay?
Made me laugh.....but yeah, what's that about?

The cycle of life for humans, but supposedly not for God. So do you worship the good and the bad?

Explain how you see God as good when He "smotes" people?

Can you truly have the good without the bad?
Would the celebration of the birth of the grandchild be as rich without the mourning for the lost grandparent?
Would joy make any sense without sorrow?
Wouldn't it just get a like a cat rubbed the right way too long?

If that is the goal of the Christian, to rest in eternal love, then yes I would hope so. And yes, I think it is possible to have good without the bad, that is my hope.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in God but I don't think I believe that the God above all, would resort to this behaviour.

I see God as being always good. God, I see as always good. I feel that it is unbelievers who puff themselves up and so make themselves objects of his righteous wrath.

Righteous wrath is good? Are we good when we're angry?

Didn't say we were, are you saying that God's good has a different definition than what we would consider good?

I feel that's true in many cases. Yep. However, what I'm really sharing is my belief that God can do things righteously which for us would be shameful. Example - "smoting."

So, smoting? What about if a person came forth with an accusation against a person which stuck, in court, in front of witnesses and jury, etc.? And that person went away to jail forever. Is that "smoting" for righteousness' sake? I mean, they've clearly become a non-entity in terms of "future deliberations of the body politic, yes?
