Our RC church have a signboard outside that often has quotes that make me think. Right now it says something like (can't guarantee the exact words) - "Worry leaves when faith enters".

Having spent time with self identified 'faithful Christians' I find this odd. Frequently it is the Christians I know who worry about a host of things that I don't. Does this mean I am more faithful than them (not that I'm interested in getting a medal, or other recognition). I'm wondering 'faith in what?' Is faith reserved for Christians? If I had ever met the RC priest I could ask him but I haven't.

Please go to it - I'm looking forward to your input/opinions/viewpoints.

When I heard that 'faith' means 'trust' I felt that I understood many quotes from the Bible and elsewhere.
So when I read "Have faith" I think "have trust" as in "Have faith in the Lord always" is like saying "Trust in the Lord always". So in my darkest periods (lworried about health, children and grandchildren, Trump, Korea, o the power going out) I try to put my trust in God that God will be with me. "Fear not" "Trust in God".
So the phrase "Worry leaves when faith enters" tells me that trusting in God (and in myself) will mitigate my worry.

Hmmmm......but neither hubby nor me professes a Christian style 'faith in a god'. Our views of god change regularly as we live and learn, and have little to do with the theology/doctrines of the RC church.

I have a take on this that doesn't really involve "God" per se. I don't have any conventional beliefs about god, envisioning it as "The Universe and Everything", panentheistically, at present, but it doesn't matter. What I do have, is a pretty firm trust in the ultimate benevolence of the universe. Not necessarily on a personal level (bad things happen to good people), but on a macro level. So, while I'm not without fear when it's warranted ("that car is coming straight for me, yikes", for example), I don't do much worrying, as I'm pretty convinced that, generally, the Universe is unfolding as it should.

"Worry leaves when faith enters"

I think this is one of those sayings that just makes Christians feel guilty because sometimes God needs to enter through the comfort of family and friends and it may be their faith that gives me strength. So I don't think this speaks for all situations, it can and should happen I suppose, but we're only human and sometimes life hands us too much. Faith is good, but sometimes it is in short supply when one is pushed over the edge and a variety of coping mechanisms are created to co exist with faith.

Thoughts are worrisome ...thus if one stops thinking ... the admonition begins and worry gets along without the stunned ...

Some wouldn't advocate selling the sol though ... and putting some investment with what bothers yah ... a;as some of those worries are entangled with dark arks ... psychopathologies ... illegal according to my etudes ...

Few know this ... thus the line is already crossed!

If you worry, you worry, whether you have faith or not. So, I don't think faith changes

the equation. Worry and faith are two different things .IMO

Maybe some worries disappear with faith. Others worries don't go anywhere. At least not in my experience.

See if you can find something sublimely ridiculous in your worries ... like fretting about alien sectarianism ... don't be too latent with what's inhumane ...

Did I say something cereus? You may have to dive for it ...

In my experiences, worry was always the worst part of whatever worried me in the first place.
It is kind of like something you get used to, is when worry is far from ones mind and it feels liberating.
It depends on lifestyle as well.
We often ask ourselves, what is it we can live with or live without? Then we adapt.

Cheers

There are 2 types of Faith ---

1--- Faith in the seen realm which relies on our 5 senses which is a non producing Faith ---as you believe in what you taste, see, touch, smell, and hear ----This Faith gives all glory ro man -----

2---Faith in the unseen realm -----you believe in a thing even though you don't see it -----This Faith is a producing Faith ------this Faith brings your future Hopes into manifestation in this seen realm ------

This Faith is very Powerful when it is truly believed upon ------this Faith is what Manifests all God's Promises into our lives ----this Faith will answer your prayers ----This Faith can and does move situations and difficulties from our lives ----- this Faith gives all Glory to God ----

Fear does not come from God ----Fear is Satan's Hook ----- this phrase ------Worry leaves when faith enters"---Is correct when you have the right Kind of Faith in your Life -----Human intellectual Faith can never make worry leave for long -----God Kind of Faith will leave worry behind as long as we keep our focus on God and not on the unseen enemy Satan who will do everything he can to keep worry in our focus ---

Knowing your enemy is key with this phrase -----Worry leaves when faith enters ----

We don't see the Holy Spirit but we certainly see the effects in our lives when we have Faith in the Holy Spirit to work in our lives ------

Faith gives us a way to cope with what worries us, but it does not remove worry. At least that is what I have seen.

Is sad. Doubt hones faith by showing us what really stands up to scrutiny. A faith without doubt is a blind faith that leaves us seeing only a narrow view of the world and cuts us off from much that is valuable and beautiful. There is no conflict between faith and doubt, save when we deny the value of one of them.

Blind authority hates doubters ... look what the PO'TUOS does to those not supporting that chair blindly ... no questions allowed ...

As we see in the book of Habakkuk, God can turn our worry into worship.

Hebrews 11:1 (AMP)
The Triumphs of Faith
11 Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].

Faith as "title deed" (Forerunner Commentary)

Hebrews 11:1

In the phrase "faith is the substance of things hoped for," Paul is not really defining what faith is, but rather he is showing what faith does in an operative sense: Faith undergirds what we hope for. Substance means "that which stands under." Faith is the foundation for what we hope, the foundation for our relationship with God and everything that it implies within His purpose. Faith is the very beginning of everything that really matters spiritually.

By saying that it is the "evidence" or "assurance" (the word can literally be translated "title deed," but "assurance" seems to be the best all-around word) of things hoped for, the author comes much closer to defining what faith is. In its simplest form, faith is merely belief. As our understanding becomes more complex and operative, when we begin to put faith to work, it becomes "confidence," and finally, in its best form, when it becomes fully operational, it is "trust." This trust, this full measure of faith, is alive and works within our relationship with God.

Where did I say this unsafe? All I have said in this thread is, "As we see in the book of Habakkuk, God can turn our worry into worship."

It was actually @Mendalla who said that in post #12 of this thread. It's an honor to be confused for Mendalla, but I am not him.

Doubt is not the same as unbelief. Questioning can strengthen your faith by testing your existing faith and making your faith even stronger. Many people still speak with God during these times.

Is there anyone here who thinks doubt is not the first step, or a common first step, on the path to non-belief?

This, I think, is why rabid faith, like unsafe's, fears doubt itself. Doubt is to question and not have a settled answer. Anyone who won't let you question what they tell you is selling something. unsafe is selling something. When faith is not based on anything testable, or something with variable results when tested, then having a settled answer is simply being untruthful about the results.

I like it when people stop and think about what they've been told about their religion. I hope more people find that path away from faith. But I won't try to scare them onto the path I hope they choose.
