Who cares really about his size, or health, or whatever anyway. I am frankly inclined to agree with @Graeme Decarie ....this is not just a 45 issue. It is a systemic issue. Why is that not being talked about or addressed. I see that the name Scott Adams has resurfaced as well. His information, and information like it is also important. We are all part of a narrative and need to be aware of it. The president benefits from it and frankly, will continued to benefit from it for some time. Sadly. I also reluctantly agree with @revsdd he will likely be re-elected.

This thread is 365 pages long.........the president sure is a topic of interest. Is that distracting us from the real issues? I think it is. That being said, I have no easy answers right now.
 
Mendalla, and Northwind, the court jesters are just doing their jobs - making fun of something on the surface that points to a deeper problem. Trump is the most powerful man in the world. It's not about anyone else. It's about the emperor with no clothes who would convince you he's "fit". And after the "birther" movement that he was part of - and helped lead - that fomented racism, just for the purpose of emboldening the racists - maybe he deserves some mocking. Again, he is not some unfortunate underdog - he manages to get people to forget that.

This is what satire is for. Pinocchio was not about making fun of kids with big noses, either.

Unfortunately, he is a real issue.
 
You have the issue with Trump - had it with Bush and Obama (and other presidents going back to Harry Truman) and will get it with the next president (unless Bernie Sanders gets on the slate).

I'm not at all sure we're ever going to see a democratic ending to all this. The big capitalists are utterly ruthless, and they command the show.

No, Graeme. Bush and Obama were not the same. Especially Obama...he did not arrive at POTUS through wealthy beginnings or nepotism. He actually had humble beginnings - he was interracial and raised in not the easiest of circumstances, at times, by a mother who was essentially single and/ or his grandparents (even though that was downplayed to the moral majority) and worked to where he got...starting as a (gasp) "community organizer" for a non-profit. He was vilified so much for that, along with being black and having helped the black community in his earlier years. The difference between Trump and Obama, is that I am certain Obama had some sleepless nights over the decisions he made, or had to compromise on, or defer to others (he cannot be leader of a democracy without compromise - meaning the decisions were not only his) - whereas I don't think Trump would lose any sleep over any of his mistakes unless they are mistakes affecting himself only. And there is a difference!

Only because of people who want to make him the issue so they can pretend that the other issues are his fault alone. Trump belongs to a group of mass murderers - plain and simple. If Oprah becomes the next president then she will join the group and so on and so on. Get over it. The more you support the gossip around these char-act-ors the more you participate in supporting mass murder world wide. There is no excuse. Keep in mind who these people have pledged allegiance to. Trudeau pledged allegiance to the Queen first and foremost and Trump to the corporations that bought the presidency. The political 'icons' of our day are not your friends. If you really care about the state of the world - stop gossiping - start paying attention to what is happening in your immediate neighborhood - local is where it starts - what in the world does Trump have to do with you personally - think about that.

Nothing...except the NK issue is kind of personal for those of us on this coast. You can talk about focusing on "the real issues", but that is still uncomfortably hanging over our heads. That, and the bigotry that he has culturally fomented all over the place. Even if I am not paying attention to it - others are, and it shapes culture and affects peoples' lives. So, people have to take the time to speak up. Ignoring him, while he has huge influence and power through a media empire (both mainstream and underground) that targets his supporters (through nefarious influence), lets it fester. That was part of how he got elected...the underground trolls and operatives - many unwittingly, via culture - made it happen while the mainstream wasn't looking. It's hard to believe, but it's true.

Obama was a servant of big business just as much as Trump and Bush. And he was just as big a killer. Even his medical care plan was horrendously expensive because it was designed to benefit the pharmacare industry and the privately owned hospitals.

In a democracy...he was not the only "decider"... correct? That is how democracy is designed...correct? You deny birtherism - which was a racist coup - had any influence which would limit him from making decisions he may have wanted to make instead?

I agree with you on one thing...to have a healthy democracy you have to have a healthy electorate. Unfortunately, the Republicans of the last few decades have been making the electorate less and less healthy. Too many rotten apples in that barrel. Now, the whole bunch is punch drunk on fermented apple juice.

I imagine that people go into politics for decent reasons a lot of the time. In order to get as high up the ranks as president or prime minister, they need to have a certain amount of narcissism and even psychopathy. If they go in wanting to make changes, I imagine they are sucked into the "Borg" of Washington or Ottawa and quickly become servants whether they intended it or not. Change is hard, or even impossible at that level. It is definitely time to stop focusing on the figureheads.

I mostly agree with you...especially on leaders getting sucked into the DC Borg...although we can't ignore the figureheads altogether because of the tone they set, and the power they wield with it. And Trump is a sneaky one...the sneakiest of sneakies...gotta pay attention.

Little known presidential candidate Adam Kokesh was arrested Tuesday in Wise County and remains in jail, a situation that Kokesh is calling a “gross miscarriage of justice.”

Kokesh, a Libertarian, was stopped twice on Tuesday, within 30 minutes of announcing his plans to run for president.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Kokesh’s recreational vehicle was pulled over for a traffic violation at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 81/287 near the U.S. 380 intersection.

Did he break a traffick law? Cuz that coulda happened if he'd just announced he was taking a load of garbage to the dump. If he flipped out overly at being pulled over, that's probably why he was arrested. If he's little known, why would they care right now if he announced he's running? There's injustice, then there's speeding in school zones, etc. Sounds like ego problems. Now, he'll be more well known.
 
The Democrats are almost as bad as the Republicans. That has serious consequences for us. The NDP and the Greens are just spinning their wheels, ignoring the reality we face. And the Liberals and Conservatives are pretty much brank o

He has a history of being a gun wielding nut job and grabbing attention for it. He has a record for weapons, and drugs. Once, it was for a bunch of magic mushrooms. So...if anyone was trying to stop him from running, maybe that's good. But he probably just broke the law again.

I read that, monk. His behaviour is nuts, though. Not well, more correctly. And I do not believe all taxation is theft...so, no. And I do not support the right to bear arms nonsense. I am Canadian and I think that particular aspect of the US constitution is problematic and needs amending. I would not vote for him.

I was reflecting on the role of government recently and thinking we'd be better off without it. I am not a supporter of Libertarianism generally, though I do support some parts of it. I didn't get anywhere with my thinking, I was just reflecting. I think that what we know as "government" is outdated and perhaps no longer useful. It is part of a Colonial past, even the American version in its own way, and there is no place for that kind of system anymore. I can't even begin to imagine how we'd go from what we have to what is better. Perhaps that is for another discussion.
