An atheist and a theist meet in the street. They converse. Each strongly disagrees with the other. Walking away, each mutters "to hell with you".

An atheist and a theist meet in the street. They converse. Each strongly disagrees with the other. A child stumbles into the path of an oncoming bus. Both reach out to catch and retrieve the child. The child's parents thank each profusely. They resume their conversation of disagreement.

Against the positivist claim that there are only facts, Nietzsche replies:
  • No, facts is precisely what there is not, only interpretations
The doctrine that there are no facts, only interpretations, Nietzsche sometimes calls 'perspectivism'.
Nicely found and played!

Is awe full like the Jude (demanding respect and worship) whereas the Heb is still laid out to learn from in Bodleian fashion ... tis the body of the script that must be drawn in full ... like that second breath person ...

This is wonderful!

And it speaks to the power of story/ myth. Who cares whether this event actually took place? Who cares whether it is literal or metaphorical?

It's a metaphor permitting insight opening to a new imagination of human capacity and potential.

Interesting that they resumed their conversation of disagreement after the shared experience of retrieving the child. They had been about to walk away from each other . . .

The volume of discussion recently is impressive. I've been able to follow very little of it. Been a very busy few days. In about 45 minutes I'll be presiding at my 5th funeral in less than two weeks - three of them have been Roman Catholic services. Don't ask - let's just say it's complicated, but I seem to have become the go to guy for the local funeral home for Catholic services when a priest isn't available for some reason. Anyway, this week's reflection - continuing with an Advent theme - is reflecting on what we hope for as Christians; what we believe on faith but can't prove. What is it all leading up to?

My Faith Thoughts: A Thought For The Week Of December 4, 2017

Hi Steven,

Gratitude and appreciation for your faith insights. My hope is for the overcoming of all that hinders and liberation of all that helps. First in me and then in all my relations.

Compliments for your service to the Catholic Community by the intercession of the funeral home.

George

Our walk of Faith -----I personally feel that many Ministers think that their Church has a good idea of what Bible Faith really is and therefore many fail to preach the real meaning of what Faith really is about in God's word ----Faith is not just a word Faith is a substance --it has power ---God created this earth with faith filled words ----Faith can create ----Faith can save ----Faith can move bad situations out of the way for us ----Faith can change a hardened heart to one of flesh ---True Faith will move us into action to do God's will ---Faith brings answered prayer ----Faith is the only way we can please God ----Faith brings what is unseen into this seen realm--like our hopes which are in the future ----

All Faith comes from God and is a free gift ---- but there is not just one kind of Faith ----the Bible says there are 3 kinds ---2 are dead faith and God's Saving faith is a producing faith ----The only way to get this producing Faith is to be saved -----

Now Paul and James talk about faith ---Paul is talking about True Faith while James is talking about a professing faith ----

Ephesians 2:8-9 (GNT)
8-9 For it is by God's grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God's gift, so that no one can boast about it.

James 2 if you read the beginning of the Chapter gives you the context which deals with Christians who show favouritism and James is saying that Christians are not to show partiality to anyone ----so he is says this below ---so The Faith James refers to here in verse 14 is false faith ----

James 2 (CSB)
The Sin of Favoritism
2 My brothers and sisters, do not show favoritism as you hold on to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. 2 For if someone comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and a poor person dressed in filthy clothes also comes in, 3 if you look with favor on the one wearing the fine clothes and say, “Sit here in a good place,” and yet you say to the poor person, “Stand over there,” or “Sit here on the floor by my footstool,” 4 haven’t you made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

Faith and Works
14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can such faith save him?

Faith also has different degrees ---little faith ---weak faith --wavering faith and strong faith -----

So there is a lot to be said about this little word Faith ----and Christians should be aware of the different types of Faith and degrees of Faith and not think that just because they have a Religion that that is their faith -----

Also the Church should be informed that there is an enemy loose who will try and keep them from the kind of Faith they need to stay grounded and rooted in their walk of following Christ in their Faith walk ----We can't live by True Faith and by sight at the same time --

There is a lesson on Faith where Peter walks on the water -----Matthew 14

Peter was first afraid --then Fear left him ---when ?

Peter says this ----GWT ---- 28 Peter answered, “Lord, if it is you, order me to come to you on the water.”

NKJV says ---28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”

What did Peter do ----He ask Jesus to speak words of Faith to him ------

Jesus Replied ----Jesus Spoke one word of Faith to Peter -----"Come "-----and for Peter Jesus call -- Come--- gave him the faith to get out of the boat and walk ----

What is important is that a word was spoken ----the call of the faith seed when out to Jesus from Peter ---and Peter's faith call was answered Come -Jesus said ---and it bore immediately the fruit that was meant to be harvest ----a mere man walked on water -----

Where was Peter's focus when his faith call went out ---- --On Jesus ----

So here we see Peter's Faith being put into action -----Faith without works is dead -----what does work mean in the bible -----

KJV Dictionary Definition: work
work
WORK, v.i. G., Gr.

1. In a general sense, to move, or to move one way and the other; to perform; as in popular language it is said, a mill or machine works well.

What happened when Peter stepped out on his Faith -- to do the impossible after some steps --- He shifted his Faith from the one who called him (Jesus ) to the wind around him and fear took over ----GWT ---30 But when he noticed how strong the wind was, he became afraid and started to sink

Fear crept in which took his Faith ---and the Fear brought in Doubt and he sank ----

So go back to the parable of the sower -----Satan came in and swallowed up Peter's Faith seed which was sown on rocky ground --it had no root to keep the Faith seed grounded in a storm ----

This is an example of wavering Faith -----

Our Faith needs to be grounded and rooted in God and His word to carry us through all storms that may come our way -----

Seeds of Faith from little --weak ----wavering ---strong ----only one will last in the storms of life --

Movement --- work!!!

Why does God say be still and know ...? This causes contrast in the Hues ... of pure white that is ...
