Hmm... and yet earlier you said, "You can celebrate some of the early pagan ways..."

Sure. You can also eat meat sacrificed to idols right?

Whether you do or do not doesn't impact upon the grace God bestows so much as it may interfere with the gratitude we offer as response.

Following Paul whether you eat or do not eat do it for the Lord.

I do not believe that God calls the followers of Christ to participate in the rituals of idolatry.

I think that we glorify God when we find joy in living life to its fullest - the abundant life surely has room for laughter, parties with friends, flights of imagination.

Hard shelled castes are just for hue mist ... and thus it busts out ...according to the themes in the Song of Solo Mon ...

Isolationism?

1 Corinthians 8.

You have read it right? Verse 4 is particularly relevant as is verse 6.

And I do think that the gist of Paul's argument holds if we swap out food offered to idols and Hallowe'en.

My home church actually has an event on October 31. It's called "Celebrate the Light." I feel that's what I'll be doing on the evening in question. We get together, sing Christian songs, pray, play games, and eat snacks. It's a lot of fun.

Such a swell would bother the people in vanities at higher levels in danger of collapse ... falls

Well ceded rounds ... contrary to your previous support and alternate hate of Clints on the waters ...

Hi,

Which begs the question: What idols are venerated in the rise of our enlightened civilization? What values determine our participation? What anticipations guide our investment of energies and resources?

There are grave issues in play. Discernment is called for. A disciplined discrimination by which what hinders is separated from what helps. We could start with the obvious hindrances. The superfluous consumption of goods and services. A turn from negative dietary health determinants to obtain positive dietary heath outcomes. Recognizing the epidemic levels of addiction to salt, sugar and fat. Resulting in rising rates of childhood obesity and childhood diabetes. Determinant features in the onset of diverse cardio and pulmonary distress.

Simple science.

Some idols are complex tomes that various peoples take as simple ... but they aren't! And the great God beyond our understanding provided many more tomes for relief ... or in relief? Ad ease ...

Halloween - Can It Glorify God?

Seems to me on Halloween day we are glorifying costumes --candy and the dark yard displays -----

Or possibly you should read . 1 Corinthians 8: 9-13.
"Be careful that this is not harmful to weak Christians, as you can do whatever you want. Weak Christians can see that they eat food in worship where they have given it to false gods. He will eat it as he has seen you eat it. You can make a weak Christian fall into sin with what you have done. Remember, he is a Christian brother who Christ died. If we sin with a weak Christian, we will sin against Christ. I will never eat it again because the Christian brothers travel and fall when they eat meat. I do not want to sin my Christian"

Rest assured airclean33 I read all of 1 Corinthians 8 when I reccommended it to Jae for some instruction on the matter at hand.

1 Corinthians 8: 9-13 does not render 1 Corinthians 8: 1-8 null or void. It simply means that there are some things to think of when deciding the what and how of celebration.

With respect to Hallowe'en, unless you are invited to actually participate in the darker pagan rituals most of the contemporary celebration of the holiday is commercialism and not pagan spirituality.

Can Halloween be divided up like that though. Or is it that by participating in any aspect of Halloween you are in effect participating in it all.

Can the law be divided up like that? Can we disregard the law with respect to diet and enforce it with respect to sexual morality? If not then Hallowe'en cannot be separated from Samhain even though they are not the same save in ignorant minds. If so then sure, we can separate Hallowe'en as All Hallows Eve from the commercial venture it has become and Samhain which it was meant to replace.

If Hallowe'en was any one thing then we might have a better time arguing that a little is the same as a lot.

Hallowe'en isn't just any one thing.

Consider the name. Is Hallowe'en literally equivalent to Samhain?

All Hallows Eve (or All Saint's Eve) is typically not the same as celebrating the end of harvest and the beginning of winter.

Considering that Samhain was counted as a thin time when fairies needed to be propitiated to ensure winter was survived or that the souls of the dead could come back and visit their homes doesn't mean that remembering the Saints is the same thing. Nor is the last part of the Hallowtide tridenum "All Souls Day" the same as believing in ghosts, goblins or witches.

Apart from that the candy to costumed visitors is not unique to Hallowe'en nor does it represent an offering to demons, idols or ghosts. It is a commercial event which is purely voluntary. You can turn out the lights and not give out anything and that will not harm your chances to survive until spring planting. Or you can give candy to stranger like you might a cup of cool water in Jesus' name, graciously and freely, without fear of calling down the wrath of heaven upon yourself.
