Not at all. I believe I said somewhere that non-violent ways are better. I'm saying the focus on the "alt left" is overblown and a smoke screen. How about we move beyond labels and find solutions.

I haven't heard the label "Antifa". I've certainly been aware of the protesters in places like Seattle and Berkley. Using labels really clouds things.

The term alt left seems to be new.

The not seeing to criticise "the left", I suppose that's the limitations of print.

Trump needs a common enemy of his base. They spent so long demonizing Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama that they could simply bring them up and generate support from all conservatives. Even with both out of political office, Trump kept trotting them both out. Trump is obsessed with both. How often has he attacked Hillary, post-election? Can you remember any president doing that with their opposition from the election? And Trump is also obsessed with undoing everything Obama did. Health care has gone from "everyone will get better and cheaper" to "repeal and I don't even care if you replace it with anything". It's not that the ACA is that bad or not fixable - it's that it was Obama's baby and has to go because of that alone.

But they need a new villain. Antifa (Anti-Fascists) are one such target group, and one thing that helped generate opposition to them was a picture supposedly from Charlotteville showing an Antifa member beating a police officer with a stick. That image was faked from a 2009 picture of a riot in Athens, Greece.

But Antifa is not a centralized organization, and what little organization it does have is non-violent in self-description and against some pretty easy-to-oppose things. Unless you're Trump.

Suppose it is just a critical collapse of social behavior of those previously balanced but in balanced due to the environment of ... in sane Eddies ... but you are not allowed to say that about the Commander in Chief ... treasonous ... if not a US patriate ... possibly labelled heresy ... .. and only religiously persecuted!

As Harold Boom would say enough is enough and we don't know that as social order civilly collapses with a great splash ...

Not only that, who's paying attention to laws that are being created and revoked? And why do I feel suspicious about the remodelling of the White house....new wiring and new heating system.....even if he's ousted, will he (and Russians, business, etc) still have access to information from some elaborate "bugging" system set up incognito? Sounds outlandish, but it seems to be where my thoughts take me with this crazy presidency.
 
I've seen some articles - a vid on CNN that I couldn't load on my phone - that are a few months old, and bring up the "alt-left". I think, in light of Charlottesville nobody in the MSM wants to acknowledge the term now - that maybe some are fighting oppression the wrong way.

Again, reminds me of MLK and Malcolm X. Two very different ways - MLK showed righteous indignation through non-violent resistance. Malcolm X thought violence against the oppressor was justified.

I think it could be a useful label to differentiate the protesters on the extreme far left who use violence, and the peaceful protesters on "the left" generally, who condemn violence - and to denounce the alt-left tactics. I don't think it has to mean that white supremacy is somehow equivalent in it's history of oppression and abuse - because it's been far worse.
