From the article at Southern Baptists call for the defunding and investigating of Planned Parenthood

"Last week, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) held its annual meeting in Phoenix.

On Tuesday afternoon, Southern Baptists unanimously adopted a resolution calling for the defunding and investigation of Planned Parenthood.

It was an important moment that demonstrates how committed the SBC has become to the sanctity of human life and the pro-life cause in the public square.

...over the course of a decade, a growing number of Baptist pastors and laypeople became convinced that pre-born life is just as sacred as life after birth; therefore, at least most abortions constitute the murder of a human being created in God’s image.

The resolution mentions several reasons Planned Parenthood should be defunded and investigated.

  • Planned Parenthood is responsible for over 300,000 abortions per year, and the number has grown in recent years
  • Though the organization provides some legitimate healthcare services, such as cancer screenings, Planned Parenthood is primarily an abortion mill that generates considerable profits and receives significant funding from the federal government
  • For two years, the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) has been producing undercover videos that expose Planned Parenthood staff engaging in illegal practices such as harvesting fetal tissue and organs for profit
  • The abortion industry has attempted to have CMP censured and has brought numerous lawsuits against the organization, despite the fact no credible evidence CMP has done anything except expose the actual words and actions of Planned Parenthood employees
  • Both the U.S. House of Representatives Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives and the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee have made criminal referrals to the Department of Justice and the FBI related to illegal activities conducted by Planned Parenthood
  • The House of Representatives voted to approve H.R. 3134, Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015, though the legislation has languished and Planned Parenthood has continued to receive federal funding
Make plans now to join the ERLC and Focus on the Family for the Evangelicals for Life Conference in Washington, D.C., this coming January 18–20, 2018."

Southern Baptists also support civil war ... can't stand others having a' peace ... thus the English ... a foreign spin game?

Besides with a toe in then all else can be oppressed ... including God for the sake of an alternate law to the nature of everything ... still mysterious to men who feel entitled ...

I'm considering attending the Evangelicals for Life Conference if I can save enough cash.

I might be more convinced pro-life advocates were actually pro-LIFE if they expressed the same concern for things like the maternal mortality rate (MMR) that they do for foetuses. The MMR of the US is the highest in the "first-world". Women in the US are three times more likely to die in childbirth than a woman in Canada. The MMR of the US is about the same as Bahrain. If pro-life advocates really valued life, I would like to think this statistic might cause concern and their energies would be directed toward improving health outcomes.

I would be more convinced that pro-life advocates were actually pro-LIFE if they ensured adequate health care for women and children. The restructuring of the US health care does little to suggest that is a priority. In the US the average cost to have a child is about $8,000 (includes pre and post-natal care). Statistically, the greatest number of unplanned pregnancies happens to young, poorer women - women who often cannot afford adequate pre/post natal care.

In El Salvador, where abortion is illegal, over 50% of teenaged girl deaths are the result of pregnant teens committing suicide or by attempting self-induced abortions. No baby saving there, only the death of BOTH the foetus and the young woman. Access to safe abortions ensures women don't die. But then pro-lifers aren't actually concerned about LIFE, they are concerned about foetuses and their own sense of moral righteousness and judgement.

I will only take pro-life advocates seriously when they place the same amount of energy towards disability rights/issues/supports that they do for preventing abortion. (Sadly) many women and couples choose to abort foetuses with disabilities because they cannot handle the staggering costs and care associates with a lifetime of supporting a child with a disability.

If pro-life advocates really valued life they wouldn't toss a teenaged girls who chose life out of school activities and graduation ceremonies. Pro-life is often pro pious judgement, not really LIFE.

I will be convinced that pro-life advocates really value life, as opposed to their own sense of smug self-righteousness, when they support maternal and foetal health initiatives, ongoing federally funded health care, a strong social safety net which includes support for people living with disabilities and their caregivers, generous maternal/parental leave, strong educational supports, and initiatives that nurture strong and supportive communities (which means they celebrate a teen who chose life). Until they do ALL of this I will remain convinced the pro-life advocates are actually judgemental men who are more concerned with power, sexual control of women, and their own sanctimonious ideas.

The United States also has the 5th highest "under 5" mortality rate among OECD countries according to the World Health Organization and the "CIA Factbook" says that the US has an infant mortality much higher than most of the rest of the "First World" - possibly the highest. I haven't checked the stats closely enough to say that for certain, but it looks like the highest. And, of course, the US is also I believe the only western country that still allows capital punishment - which is generally applied, of course, against African Americans and the poor.

This in the country where the "pro-life" movement wields huge political sway, and yet you hear hardly a voice raised from that corner about those things. Really they should be called the "pro-life until you're born and then we don't give a damn" movement.

And then there is the whole issue of the "Centre For Medical Progress"

An ethically challenged "citizen journalist" outfit.

If they are your guiding light then it is the blind leading the blind.

The project lead for "Center for Medical Progress was just convicted for the misleadingly edited videos of Planned Parenthood.

DaisyJane and revsdd both covered the hypocrisy of the outrage well. Jae, this is just you trying to generate an angry reaction again by floating the worst stuff you can find about this next group you are ostensibly latching on to. It's so, so obvious to everyone by now. No one cares.

Though if you really are joining the Southern Baptists, I think they are awful people and fully deserving of you.

Does poor attitude towards communication between varied communities ... provide a hint towards our ignorance to word(s) by god ... then some would prefer we don't understand a lot about the extent of this large pool, dark and shadowy because of how definition evolves over time ...?

Appears anti socialistic to me and thus spots of extreme individualism that cannot absorb much of the social mine ... integral process of mental gathering ... if that can be grasped ...

Psyche, mine and sol is a strange context of intelligence ... it tends to drift due to Arid fogs ... then condescension, condense meant before the fall?

Even the bones of the story are rearranged ... for those preferring chaos on either side of the veil ... the sheet across the w I'z ... dead cause for the opinionated to dispose of poor thinkers ... dangerous entities ... thus the shaded points ... dark holes are directed away from here ... subtle upending of knowledge and wisdom about relating with neighbours?

Not my enigma some would state ... as they wouldn't follow my pathé ... a pain to the entitled?

Literary science ... an essence to the existential? Perhaps just an Eire ...

I can't say ... designated a dummy from an early point in my life ... if I rise to the moment must be done outside the guides ... II ... para el ism ... or more æl? Only opinions are dealt with thoughts generally disposed as anti opinion!

You guys - hilarious!

Blame prolife on all the ills of America.
Pro lifers have not been in control of America but the Evil Empire, and they have no intention of letting the democratically elected govt do it's job.

The pendulum has reached the left end of lunacy, but at least it has finally reversed direction.

I suppose the women members of the SBC will just become silent if they require an abortion, much like the RC church who were told to not use birth control other than the rhythm method. It will just go underground or they will seek help from organizations that are more open to dealing with the facts as they occur.

Or maybe they will just have their babies.

Actually what I see is people pointing out that commonly those who call themselves "pro-life" seem to miss a whole list of other pieces that actually being pro-life (as opposed to anti-abortion) would mean. I don't see that blame for those issues is being laid.

That is sadly, the reality. That is what has been done historically. Sadly also, women will die.

That's always what happens when abortions are made illegal. Abortions still happen. It's just that more women die because they can't get them legally and safely.

Which is why I have always like the dictum commonly ascribed to Jim Wallis:
Abortion should be safe, legal and rare.

Illegalization tries to handle rare and the cost of safe. There are other ways to get to rare.
