Well I wasn't aware of the law that suppressed ministers from speaking about certain issues since the 1950's. It didn't seem to stop most evangelicals from putting their two cents in about political issues, so I was mildly surprised that this was such a turning point for them. Trump seems to be taking credit for something that always has taken place anyway. Also, who needs the president to declare a national prayer day in order to give legitimacy to the churches or even permission to speak out?
I agree with revjohn, it seems two faced to claim tolerance towards Muslims and Mexicans.
When he visits Saudi Arabia, will he speak out against their treatment and laws against women and gays? But then I'm not sure any American president would be able to speak out until their own house is in order without appearing hypocritical.

Here in Canada the only stricture on Political Speech that the Church must contend with is whether or not the Political Speech is partisan.
In theory I can be critical of any political policy of any government. It is when I start targetting politicians because of their party that I am making politically partisan statements.
So, for example, if I attack a political position based on my understanding of "love of neighbour" I have made a political statement but I have not made a partisan statement.
It isn't that difficult to understand nor is it really that difficult to manage unless you are stridently partisan.

I find nuns a nice prop for knowledge and wisdom ... in theological seminars I've attended ... I've found them to wear several if not multiple degrees ... Baccalaureates, in addition to post grad degrees in arts, science, engineering, etc. so much more broad-based than some narrow minded hosts I grew up with. Some even shouted out across the hosts that I was crazy for studying and observing things I hadn't known previously ... prejudice in the finest form about heiro gamma ... once know as wisdom of Knossos i.e. Gnostic stuff that's gnasty to those that don't know the silence of "Ji" and 'g' as djinni creeps ... legacy, or an odd PEW?

Last I checked reproduction in the human species requires the participation of both, of course, historically women don't need to voluntarily participate.
And what persecution are the sisters facing? Is their convent a target of hate? Are nuns subject to a travel ban? Are nun's routinely equated with terrorism? What religious liberty have they lost?
Why not have a Muslim attend, or a Jew? Why not put their religious freedom on display since the executive order is about all religion not just Roman Catholicism.
I have no problem with nuns. By their habits they look like they might be from the same order as Mother Teresa (?) Maybe not - but the habits look more informal. It's Trump using them for his photo op that is curious. I guess because he mentioned his upcoming trip to Rome...to meet the Pope. That will be an interesting meeting. I wonder if thunderbolts are going to strike again?
