TRUMP - Some people think......... How do you feel?

It won't wake us up. What is happening is not a revelation to anyone who has studied any history.
But the point of studying something like history is not to accumulate full knowledge. We never have full knowledge. We can't. The value of studying history is to learn how humans behave. Once you know that, you can focus on the real problem, and not waste time fussing about Donald Trump as if he were something unique.

Who said he was unique, clowns are everywhere, haven't you heard?

The uniqueness of Donald Trump has been a feature of this thread. Read Kimmio. read waterfall.
He's unique to this generation Graeme. And no, maybe this generation has not studied history like you have. Because maybe they're done studying war. They want something different. Generational change will make a difference if we can get through the next 10 -15 years without completely destroying ourselves. A new generation of leaders leading differently is what is needed.

He's not even really unique to this generation. Ronald Reagan was nought more than an actor; he was just a better "President" actor than the current ex-Apprentice actor... Reality TV stars, by their very nature, tend to be poorer actors than the conventional sort.

Ronald Reagan was nearly 2 generations ago now. Well, one anyway. He's not this generation.

He does eat a lot of fast food, apparently.

What I meant by not this generation is that this current generation wasn't around for Ronald Reagan. The oddest character they saw was G.W. Bush. And even he was more stable.

Graeme doesn't think personality matters. I do. It matters a great deal for problem solving.

This generation is post Cold War, post Berlin Wall, way past WW2, past the Civil Rights movement, past segregation, past the "women's lib" second wave feminism and onto the third - and along comes Trump and the Trumpians from the Land of Trump - to hijack progress and take them back in time to an era, or combination of eras, that only exists in the history books - 1950? 1984? 1939? - and yet, with the help and presence of modern entertainment and technology. There are many people under 30 right now thinking "WTF is going on?" There are many, much over 30, thinking the same thing. But it is a completely alternate universe for millennials.

I'm reminded of this for some reason. Maybe because of the "Wow I didn't know dinosaurs still existed" moment of shock and fear young people are likely going through:

The cause of that is not Trump. That has been the policy of every president since 1945. And they have all lied. It's a mistake to get obsessed with Trump's personality. He is following in the footsteps of most presidents.

Lies are not new ... they are the basis of a successful run at the end ... ontological knowledge!

In a world of lies ... virtue lies in Utopia ... why it stands (etics?) to reason there has to be another side to reality ... perhaps just an abstract in all the combined stories! So much for the moral pool ... the backstage activities however stand in limelight ... needing Masons to chip these out as a decent virtue ... something unseen in the real word as sign of God's-sol ... an imaginary it'm!

Trump is 70. Statistically, he is on his way out. Not sure what the average age of Americans would be, but I imagine it is younger than that.

Like me ... with Sisyphus ... over the hump in time ... a strange domain to young farts ... young folk just cannot understand older seekers as getting closer ... to what no one knows ... few return!

Are market place collapses bazaar considering the avarice that is self-consuming?

There has to be a backside to it just to support the following Runes ... broken letters? Like "<" in the "fuþark series" as just another code well forgotten in the expanse of mind ...

Many in the bulk of humanity do not know these things ... thus rare Eire ... or clouded Celtic Minds as we don't recall those parts, bits and chitz! Just wee portions of what's scattered in ecclesiastical exuberance ... slam bang effect as incident in time ... a dark dimension to say least!

Thus utopia gets pushed off into the abstract that's ... well out there! Many of the confirmed won't go that far ...

Trump encourages racism and hatreds not because he believes in them (though he might). He does it because millions of Americans believe in them. Trump has not caused this. The American people have. And they have always wallowed in racism (as have Canadians) since their ealiest settlement.

The new generation doesn't study history like the old one????? Nonsense.

Notice that all your thoughts about the 'new generation' say almost nothing. It's all vague and without meaning.
The 'new' generation of americans bears a remarkable similarity to an old generation of Germans.

Vague? ... yes ... in the light of authority we are to feint away ... like elephants in Caesars hills ... a large room ... be still and thus the silent's crypt!

Trump fomented racism with his birtherism scam. It may have been less about 'his' racism than a ploy to use the public's racism and anger as fuel to hate Obama, and put himself in the political spotlight. Nevertheless, he fomented racism.

Did you know that Trump's chief advisor , Steve Bannon - self proclaimed white nationalist, former owner of Brietbart, and friend and mentor of controversial young alt-right propagandist Milo Yannonopilous (look him up) - was once a "deadhead" - a hippie. A Jerry Garcia groupie, and left wing all the way. Now he has used elements of what he learned from the 60's protest movement to drive far right propaganda. It's very disappointing. This worldwide surge in white nationalism is being driven by baby boomers. So, he is partly responsible for those young people who are acting like an old generation of Germans.

By and large young people have lived in peaceful times. They are bright minds who want a different kind of world. They've embraced multiculturalism and equality. They've seen great advancements in science and medicine. They have experienced the world as an interconnected, "small", place due to the Internet. They have never not known life without the Internet. Wars don't make sense. They never did - but it especially rings true when people have friends all over the world that they speak to everyday. All the military talk - those old generals and senators might as well be dinosaurs. They're cramping the progress in the world - impeding things like green technology innovation. Etc.

Oh, for pete's sake - Obama is the one who supplied ISIS with weapons and money and training. The U.S. is still doing it.
And the biggest warlords, by far, in the world are the politicians and generals and corporate bosses of the U.S. It was also the U.S. under Obama which supplied The Saudis with weapons to kill Yemenis - and also supplied them with help by U.S. warships and bombers. The U.S. is far, far the biggest supplier of Israel to kill Palestinians so it can steal their land.
Young people have lived in peaceful times? We haven't had any peaceful times since 1945. The U.S., in particular, has been almost continually at war.
They've experience the world as an interconnected place? No. They haven't. Most of the people in this world can't afford computers. Our young people have no special insights into anything. They've experience changes in science, etc? Just about every generation has, especially in the past century. There's no evidence that changes ways of thinking.
Oh, computers also encourage war. One of the greatest single uses of them is playing war games so that war becomes fun.

I've worked with young people most of my life. I've never seen any spectacular change from generation to generation.

Trump encourages hatreds and racism? Name me a president who hasn't. FDR would not allow Jewish children who escaped the death camps to enter the U.S. Nor would Canada. In fact, neither Canada nor the U.S. would allow Jews in for several years after the war. Those children that Canada and the U.S. refused had to go back to the camps to die.

The U.S. and Canada have frequently and for long periods banned people on a racist basis - that has included Blacks, Ukrainians, Orientals, arabs, Jews,..... Both have also routinely abused those who got in. I've seen many a race riot. and, in the U.S., the division between black and white is profound. And every president has used racism to create hatred for people it wants to kill - Germans, Japanese, Arabs, Russians... One reason American elected Trump was because of his racist hatred of Mexicans and Latin Americans.

I know of no evidence the younger generation is of any broader mind on this.
You think Clinton isn't a racist? She happily murdered innocent Libyans. And took part in setting up the Syrian war.

Kimmio, you constantly invent a world that doesn't exist and never has existed - and you invent an imaginary reality around it.
