Yeah, I'm seeing the science bloggers/Youtubers I follow (Phil Plait (Bad Astromony), Emily Lakdawalla of the Planetary Society, Diana Cowan (Physics Girl)) being much more political these days and that's one of the things they are saying. In some ways, I wish they would take it on. All three are excellent communicators so they could easily run or help someone else run. I think science educators like them would actually make better candidates than scientists proper, who tend to be a bit out of touch with things outside their own research field. Science promoters/educators are used to distilling science for the masses (ie. for voters) and being advocates for science and scientific concepts to the general public. I guess Bill Nye (Emily's boss, by the way, since he's the current CEO of the society) would be the obvious option for a high profile science candidate to run for some public office or other. He has some political liabilities, though, esp. in parts of the country where the religious right (ie. creationists) are strong.

Nye? As Lutheran Humor has pointed out in one of their videos, he has a Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and he used to pretend to be a scientist on television.

Read again. I never said he was a scientist, only that he's a successful science educator and advocate. I, personally, would not make him my first choice (I think he's too abrasive and has created too many enemies to be politically successful) but if you want a public figure to promote science politically, he's bigger than most. My whole point was that educator/advocates for science like him and the others I listed (only Plait has actually been a full, working scientist) are probably better political candidates than actual scientists who, save for odd cases like Carl Sagan and Neil Degrasse Tyson, aren't always very adept at communicating with the general public.

Linguistic definition of old (aulde) presents science as the power of observation of things physical and investigation of the unseen ... sometime OMG a eternal stretch for mortals ...

That can lead to separation and schism in BS ...

Jae your quote -----God sends blessings both to those in relationship with him and those who are not.

It depends what blessings your talking about --so you are right in one sense and that is my fault for not specifying in OP -----I am talking about the Blessings and Curses promised in Deuteronomy 28 -------God has blessed all His Humanity with Common Grace -----but the Promises of the Blessings are according to scripture for those who obey His word -----God makes it rain on the unjust and the just ----all humanity has been blessed with food ---air ---water --cloths ---minds ---talents all from Common Grace ----these are different from the promised Blessings in Deut------

He is the "Science Guy", and a fantastic educator who can make science make sense, and make it interesting. And any engineering degree gives him a huge leg up on almost all politicians when it comes to understanding and appreciating the consequences of political decisions in all sorts of ways.

Miracles are unsubstantiated claims of the suspension of natural laws. Blessings are the good fortune that occurs with the sort of distribution one might expect if you understand statistics.
Hey funny guy,
The existence of life is a miracle. What is unsubstantiated about that. In the natural - no one has ever been able to create life from non life. No one can demonstrate or theorize a plausible explanation for life. No one can create one single cell of the most basic life, Yet the earth teams with life and you cling to some 155 year old theory about life that is obsolete because the alternate is unbearable.

Christians are taking science to the man. Many open minded scientists are recognizing that life by chance is not really a starter.

I give him due credit for his Bachelors degree. I don't think it's appropriate for him to be pretending to be a scientist. I have a Bachelors degree in religious education. I don't go about pretending to be a theologian

Anyone can be a scientist. Come up with a hypothesis, test it, and write down your observations. Hey, you're a scientist. That's all it takes - a scientific approach. There are much higher hurdles to being able to call yourself an engineer.

Sounds like something an engineer would say.:D

Actually anyone who engages in discussion of how God has been and is active in the world is doing theology, and therefore a theologian.

His pretending to be a scientist suggests that, you know, he actually holds some kind of degree in science.

That's true, however one who presents themselves on television, at conferences, on videos, on radio, as a theologian usually actually holds one degree or more in theology.

My wife was doing science. She has an engineering degree. Her title at a biomedical company was "Research Scientist". Lots of engineers work as scientists. Engineering is just applied science, and engineers spend a lot of time taking the same science courses and working in the same science labs as science students.

Your wife, I'll guess, was willing to say that she's an engineer. Not once have I ever heard Nye say the same about himself. He's quite happy to strut about pretending to be the calibre of scientist he isn't. Now, I get that you like him as he's an atheist like yourself. It's sad, though, that you're willing to buy into and defend his inauthenticity.
