We do have confrontations and conflicts due to the loss of fair Ness metaphor ... tis a dark pool to say least ... thus subtle pool?
 
I wonder - if Clinton had won the nomination, would we have heard the same speech? She has a long record as a mass killer. Given who here masters, she's fully as dangerous as Trump. But I can't imagine that speech would have been given if she had won.
And where is the speech for the hatred generated by the very wealthy and the news media they own? Russia is now being set up for a major war. If there is one, and even if it doesn't go nuclear the deaths would be in the high millions. And why? Because our very wealthy (who, we are told, are wealthy because they love competition) don't love competition at all. They destroy it wherever possible. And Russia is an economic competitor. So is China. We were taught to hate them when they were communist. Now, they're capitalist - and, apparently, we still have to hate them.
We could use a speech on the use of hatred by our very wealthy and by the politicians they own.

U.S. leaders have been preaching hatred of Muslims - and killing them - for decades. I must have missed the speech about that.
 
Was in the usa over the weekend. I was honestly surprised by the number of people i met who

A) hated clinton
B) thought she was a criminal
C) thought Bill was a criminal
D) voted republican but didnt bother to vote for trump as they just could not stand him
E) were happy to have their states go republican even still


It will be interesting

It just came to methis morning, hearing how Kevin OLearyavoided the french debate- the US could have easily avoided Trump by making it mandatory for the president to be bilingual. Maybe in English and Spanish.
 
She spoke at our Presbytery meeting a few months ago; very impressive speaker, and her message really resonated with me.

I notice that she managed to engage the Drumpf question without once mentioning God, which is probably very appropriate. Would that Gary Paterson had been so discrete when talking about the murder of the atheists at Charlie Hebdo...

I guess the difference might be that Canada is 'officially' bilingual, whereas I don't think that's the policy in the US - although I may be wrong (but I'd be really surprised to learn differently, given the frequent rhetoric against Hispanic people)
 
I've also found myself wondering lately about how Trump's youngest son - age 10 I think - is being affected by all the vitriole dished out by both his Dad and by the public & media. Must be a very difficult situation. The older "kids" are a bit accustomed to it, and perhaps better able to process what's going on, but I do worry for the 10 year old - it's a very formative and sensitive age.
 
I'm part of a knitting group on FB. People have been knitting the pink "pussy hats" and sharing them on the page. The reaction to them has been crazy, and has triggered some conflict in the group. I decided to ask people who opposed them about their opinions via private message. I've had a couple of good discussions and one woman thought they were only to support Planned Parenthood. I'd like to think she has a broader view now, even if she does still disagree with the women's march. One woman yesterday blasted me with all the talking points. I had taken a purposefully curious approach, asking questions and for clarification. I learned that I am living in a fantasy world and that I and others like me (Femi-Nazi's) are ruining the US. She was one angry lady. If she is an example of what is happening there, I'm glad I'm not in the US! I blocked her since she kept coming back with more insults and talking points. I am glad though that I was able to have more reasonable discussions and only one crazy one.

The US as a nation is not (in fact, they don't have an official language in spite of repeated attempts to enshrine English as one) but some states have policies calling publication of government documents in non-English languages, esp. Spanish. Puerto Rico, which is a territory rather than a state, definitely is bilingual with a strong bias towards Spanish though to what degree it is "official bilingualism" rather than just how things are, I'm not sure.

(EDIT: Apparently Spanish is "official" in Puerto Rico)

I like those hats! I saw an article about how the march will be a sea of pink hats.

More seriously, the vitriol is more than palpable in the U.S., it seems. I hope the trend doesn't move up here too much. I read DT's Twitter page, and the replies, and can't believe what I'm reading sometimes. There's some good humour on there too, though.
 
Could vitriol cause a flood up here ... of tears in the state of spreading north? Waves of depressed yanks and Hi JNKS?

Causing us to ask Y-JNKs? It looses much in the interpretation from ancient forms --- Pla Toes!

Do you think there is even a chance for a candidate that promises they wouldn't go to war except in self defense, use torture, treat other nations and their own people with respect, dismantle nuclear warheads as well as the influence of the NRA? Basically everything that stands for being an American?

If he unilaterally pulls out of NAFTA, yes and it will probably be negative. If he is willing to renegotiate, then it drops to a perhaps and we might even be able to wrangle something positive out of it. So it all comes down to how he really handles NAFTA (versus the rhetoric he used in the campaign).

That said, it once again proves that we need to be diversifying our trade. CETA was supposed to help with that but it's stalled and, with the Brits going hard Brexit, we will have to do a separate deal with them now (and that's already being discussed, in fact, according to one article I read). China is another that Trudeau is pursuing but that is fraught with perils of its own. TPP might go on without the US, but the only major trading partner in that for us is Japan if the US is, indeed, out.
