Your problem there is that this geographical area, time and its people generated all sorts of theological understandings and deities. And you think yours is the correct one. You think that the inability of Crossan or anyone else to prove your God fictional is their failing, but you can't show that any competing deity is a fallacy, either. By your reasoning, every deity is real.

now how do I explain to an atheist like you and im not trying to be derogatory about it , but how does Christendom teach that the Spirit is real and millions of millions of believers world wide have come to experience it and be taught by it , you cant unless you experience the spiritual yourself.

like me once all we have is literature print in a book called the bible till the Spirit brings it to life and Truth.

that is the position i argue it from

Hi again Gord. To me only GODS Holy Spirit can interpret GODS Word I believe . So when others tell me the meaning they have , I have to run it through my Holy Spirit. Every one has a theory or belief that is why we are to check all thing. Don't believe what I just told you . Go to GODS Word and look it up Gord . If I am wrong come on back an explain please.
SO your own personal interpretation trumps every other understanding of Scripture?
Only people who agree with you have the Holy Spirit guiding their interpretation?

WHat is your point? I am explaining that all good theology (and, to be honest a whole lot of bad theology -- eg Prosperity Gospel) is undergirded by Scripture. But also the Scripture is not the only part of the equation...

That's called the argument from popularity fallacy, or if you are impressed by Latin as much as you are by other things, "argumentum ad populum".

Don't ask for any more Latin because that's about all I've got. But what you have is textbook argumentum ad populum. Just because something is popular, that doesn't make it true. It makes it popular.

--My point Gord is GOD I believe knows the answer to all questions. I sure don't . But once more you have come back to me . With out GODS Word.
GOD BLESS you Gord.

I wasn't using the Popularity argument to give my faith validity, its the other way around , i was tying to show that its the Spirit that brings the masses in to the Truth

If you can get it straight from the horses mouth why do you need to see it in print?

What I really don't understand is why other Christians aren't imploring you to shut up while you're behind.

So the millions of millions don't count in this equation because it is the spirit that is popular?

It's the "give him long enough rope" strategy.

BB, why do you feel so compelled to bash other people's beliefs while holding up your own? Is that the only way yours gain credibility?

Crossan and Borg and Spong, et al, have all moved towards a less theistic, more process, vision of Divinity. As have a lot of other DIFFERENT theologians. Matthew Fox does some neat stuff with the Cosmic Mass.

not at all, its not what i believe or others believe its about truth, that is my interest , I want to know the Truth of the spirit realm, so if truth exists the there must logically be the opposite,

good for them , then they should admit what they are and be truthful, instead of being so disingenuous

hmmmm, no

they become believers because of the Spirit , not because of the masses of believers, kind like you
Kind like me? I am not sure if you are saying I am kind or that I am not a believer because of the masses of unbelievers. i guess I will assume the latter.

Dose the Popularity count turn you into a believer?

my guess is NO
It certainly doesn't hurt. If Christianity is "popular" in your household I think there is a greater chance of family members being believers than there would be if it were not.
