I am a fan of re usable gift containers. Actually we used to open our gifts carefully so the paper could be re used! It was fun to check the paper, see who got it last year and try to recall what was wrapped in it. (we tend to a bit of weirdness).

I have made a variety of fabric bags that can be used over and over. Some are drawstring style and some like tote bags, and they are various sizes.

I'll try to be LAST to get my gifts under the tree but probably won't succeed as my partner is notorious for 'not being ready'.

No tree till we can get the solarium furniture out of the living room...can't get the furniture out till it warms up so we can open the solarium door.

We had a kid who was overly concerned about the SIZE of a gift. One of year he checked the packages under the tree and compared them for size. Realising that his gift wasn't the biggest he fussed and pouted. The next Christmas I wrapped his Lego gift, dropped it into the box the new fridge box came in and taped the whole thing shut with a bow on top. Happy boy who still knows he learned a good lesson that Christmas morning.

We did that with a pin we gave mom one year - packed it in a microwave box and filled it with everything we could find in the house in the way of cleaning supplies and recycling...not because she had an issue with present sizes but so she wouldn't guess what it was. :)

The best Christmas gifts are those that help the recipient celebrate Jesus Christ. Bibles, Christian books and music, a donation in the recipient's name to a local church or other Christian charity, tickets to a church event or concert, all these are wonderful ideas.

On one of those ironic notes, at our last Board meeting, they made a bit of a fuss over the members who had spearheaded our Affirming process. The designated "gift-getter" decided that it would be nice to find a religious symbol - a cross, or a dove, or a fish symbol combined with a rainbow. Guess where she looked first? The local "Christian" book and gift store. Needless to say, such a thing was not to be found there, and much laughter ensued at the story. (A very pretty dove with a rainbow was found and purchased, and sits proudly on the collar of my good coat at present.)

Your story seems to be missing an important element - why did they give you a gift?
