TRUMP - Some people think......... How do you feel?

Mystic, I'm sure you have a point. But, as it is, one can simply reverse your two statements. Trump got his votes in the sticks. Hillary got hers where most people live.
The fact remains that she got the majority.
I'm not sure that the extent of empire is what does the damage. It might have more to do with nationalities and the near-worship of nationalism. Once you accept nationalism, then we can no longer work together as equals. And the wealthy can exploit nationalism to fight their wars.

While I do love my country, it's not a "my country, right or wrong" thing. It's more that Canada's system seems to reflect my values better than, say, the US. But there are other countries, esp. in Western Europe, that fit that bill, too.

Nationalism is, to my eye, the worship of the nation and is a divisive force. Ditto ethnocentrism. I would much rather see us recognize that nations, ethnicities, and individuals are part of the greater whole that is humanity and working together rather than focussing on these divisions. Good luck with that. Things were looking better there for a while but nationalism seems to be back in force these days and that worries me more than a lot of other things that are going on. Nationalism gave us the two most destructive wars in history and we can't afford to go down that road again.

What do I think?...How do I feel today? I still feel like we entered a time warp. Some wrinkle in quantum space-time. Weird. i've been a bit glum. Like, mild grieving, heartbreak, Christmas feels not quite right, kind of glum. I want to get into Christmas, but this might be the wrong universe we landed in. Really. Multiverse theory and mirror universes etc., deserve a closer look.

So, now Trump is appointing a fast food CEO - unsurprisingly, against upping the min. wage - to be his Secretary of Labor. Hello, Orwell.

And the CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment as Small Business Administrator, which makes more sense that that one but, man, the jokes that's going to inspire.

Really, though, everything is progressing about as I expected. A few sane appointments (e.g. the Iowa governor, who is a friend of Chinese president Xi, as ambassador to China) and lot of ones that seem a bit "off the wall". I'm shaking my head enough to aggravate my bad neck but, in the end, it's beyond my control so I'm not exactly worrying about it.

And who has left the minimum wage low for those many years? It is not one political party that has crashed. All political and social structures have collapsed.

Dems were pushing to raise minimum wage. Whether they would've raised it, and enough, is another story. Trump's not even pretending to care about the struggling working class voters now...like, those who voted for him. He stopped one plant from exporting jobs but I guess he thinks everybody else should get a job at McD's, or maybe a minimum wage job at one of his hotels. Are they going to realize who they voted for soon? He's going to send undocumented workers "back" and force his voters into the min. wage jobs...that occurred to me.

It's not Trump, and it's not Clinton. The trouble goes way back. Americans are so hypnotized by historical myths, lying news media, and an abused nationalism that they have no sense of alternatives. The system is broken, and they have no place else to go. That will probably stoke a mindless rage - which will be even worse.

Trump did not save the 1,100 jobs at Carrier in Indianapolis. 550 workers are still being laid off. Trump announced he had saved all the jobs. What actually happened is that he gave Carrier special consideration and tax breaks that now other companies will demand. And in the process, he told all the workers that their jobs were saved, giving half of them false hope.

Now that the excitement has died down and the story is almost out of the news cycle, comes the truth. But what most people will think and remember is that Donald Trump saved thousands of jobs.

It is master media manipulation. He even attacked the Carrier union president. Now Chuck Jones is speaking out:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/post...ut-our-jobs/?tid=sm_tw&utm_term=.aec684b8a633

Trump didn't save all those jobs. He saved half of them, at a large cost to the state of Indiana. He energized his base at the expense of 550 people and the tax revenue of a state.

I knew there had to be a catch. There always is. I skimmed headlines saying the deal wasn't all it's cracked up to be.

I still think he's going to send illegals away and push the min. wage jobs onto people, many of whom, were his base - and they will not be pleased. Work programs and whatnot. The undocumented workers do all the jobs others don't want.

And...on CBC yesterday I think...food prices are going up and it's partly in anticipation of Trump rounding up undocumented farm labourers. Stephen Colbert did a political spoof on this a few years ago, that he took to an official hearing...his point being that most Americans don't even want those jobs. They give no thought to who actually does them.

On the other hand, Michael Moore thinks Trump will be rethinking how much hard work his new job is and might quit before Jan. 20th (which would give them President Pence, I guess). Moore was right about Trump winning. He even called the states heavily in support of him that were flying under everyone else's radar - but he had his ear to the ground. He understands the heartland folks' thinking.

Pence is a Christian whackjob. He will clearly be the most powerful VP since, well, maybe only Dick Cheney.

Trump will be the face and the twitter account of the administration. The work will fall to others.

I'm really disappointed in you guys.

I don't know if you have heard, probably not, but Hillary says she lost the election because of fake news. Fake news are all the little people on the internet who share news stories that the regular media (owned by the same people who bring you Hillary) hide or fail to report.

Hillary(her owners) are trying to make it illegal to share news that goes against the news you guys listen to narrative. She is trying to get twitter and google and facebook to filter them out so that they can control what you hear, and make you into little zombies. Which sadly you already are, because you haven't even figured out how you were duped already.

Who is the real fake news? Huffington post tweeted that the probability of Hillary winning the election was over 98%.
I thought that since they and CNN and MSNBC and Washington Post etc. had been caught, people would wise up and they would have to fess up. Some of them did offer a bit of an apology. But now they have doubled down and seriously, you guys are being fed a bunch of bull.

There are both left and right leaning people who post real news. But soon they are going to be censored, and the internet will be like China or North Korea. At least social media, in the beginning.

Wake up people!

I think they were talking about Alex Jones who is as much of a showman as Trump but he pedals his wares as though he's the real deal and doesn't admit he's fake (such as Stephen Colbert used to plainly tell people before his interviews "I'm in character pretending to be that guy you can't stand" - he was a parody of people like Hannity who Trump pretty much used as a legit "journalist") , and then the other alt right nationalist sexist white supremacist promoters who have said pretty deplorable things to whip up the hate mongers and legitimize their bigotry. And the propaganda put out by Russia.

I don't believe in government censorship but people need to speak up when they recognize that s**t. Excuse my foul language. (Foul language is appropriate when something really is s**t).

Wake up PG13!

This is about a story that appeared, of all places, in Teen Vogue. It has been lauded for exposing Trump's "gaslighting" of America. For those who don't know what gaslighting is, it is a psychological manipulation tool of abuse to get people to question their sense of reality and sanity. It is named from an old psycho-thriller apparently where a man plots to make his wife think she's gone insane by moving things around - her only evidence is every time it happens the gaslights are dimmed.

Trump theoretically did this by calling direct evidence of his words and actions - straight out of his own mouth - "media bias". He did this every time he was caught in a lie (or something that would've been damning to Hillary or anyone else), came out. And he always threw it back to how "crooked" she was. This is what he does. This is what he is doing still.

Hillary's not the president elect. I think you noticed. How could they end up being that far off in their predictions? Where is the fishy stuff really going on? If the big news sites - if real journalists - lose all credibility (can it, Graeme) then all we have is little guys talking amongst ourselves or spreading rumours and memes - no way to measure opinion against fact - and that is actually not a good thing. We need to be able to trust journalism (can it, Graeme). Sure the MSM screws up, butTrump is trying to discredit it completely and make those who still trust it for the most part, think they're losing their collective minds and should trust him. Trump - who built his name and used reality TV as a spring board for his candidacy, Banyan .... And you're turning this into a Hillary problem...? Still?!

you 're wasting your time discussing this as Clinton vs. Trump. That's not the issue and that isn't what has caused this. Years of corrutption and manipulation and lack of any concern for the nation as a whole have effectively destroyed the American nation. Neither Clinton nor Trump are causes of this. They are the result of the collapse of American society and institutions. It is a collapse, and it seems likely to stay collapsed.
With it, journalism collapsed. It never was all that strong. Unlike Kimmio, I did a good deal of jounralism in print, radio and TV over a period of forty years. I also taught journalism. I know what an honest press looks like. And we don't have one.
Notice the horror of the press at the Russian bombing of Aleppo? Deliberate bombing of civilians goes back at least to 1920 with Churchill's bombing of the Kurds. It was picked up by the Germans in Spain. Then really took off deliberate and massive killing of civilians by air raids on both sides. The U.S., since then, has been by far the world leader in targetting civilians, killing millions since 1945.

How many news stories have you seen about the horror of American bombing? About the horror of Russian bombing?

The news media had lots and lots of stories about the evil of Hussein. Tell me what evil he did compared to the massive evil the U.S. inflicted on innocent Iraqis.
Hussein was captured and almost immediately tried by a U.S. military court. We have international courts to try people like hussein. Care to guess why he wasn't tried by one of those? Care to guess why our news media didn't bother to bring that to your attention?
Social and political structures have been disappearing for a long time in the U.S. They are now gone. This is a turning point in history.

With Trump it will look much worse, Graeme. Things will be worse with him rather than Clinton. It matters that he was elected to those who have their whole lives in front of them. There's just going to be a bunch of individuals bickering in the outer realms - like here - where there is wailing and gnashing of teeth. I realize you were a journalist but Trump is trying to discredit any shred of integrity journalists have left - when simply they write what he says!!! When they have the courage (or the duty) to critique him. Then he gets on Twitter and says "Unfair biased media!" And it reaches mindless masses in seconds! Many of them, not even actual people, spread it further.

Kimmio, there is no shred of integrity journalists have left. Well - CBC still ranks high. Haaretz.
Al Jazeera. The Guardian (sometimes)
Trump is right. The greater part of the media was biased against him - and it showed. The worst, large media outlet, though, Fox (Murdoch),was biased for him.)
But none of that is the point. How could a nation of well over 300 million people produce two such turkeys as candidates. And look at ALL the candidates. The only one who came even close to representing the needs of the American people was Sanders.
And notice that all the cabinet choices by Trump are coming from the same, old group. And it would have been the same with Clinton.

The system is broken, over, gone, finished. This has been shaping up for long time. Both parties are gangs of cronies. Both parties are in bed with the very wealthy. We are watching American come apart at the seams. Neither Clinton nor Trump did that. It's been happening for decades.
America is breaking down. It is not going to get better. Like a thrashing beast in its death throes, it can still do tremendous damage. But the America that was the heart of an empire is gone. Like Britain, France, Spain, Rome, it's in the dustbin of history.

The U.S. now has a president whose policies are not what he said they were in the campaign. He is not going to do anything for the American people. In fact, his policies are extreme examples of what has been destroying the U.S. for many, many years. They are much the same policies as both Clintons, Obama, Bush...... The breakdown of America happened a long time ago. It's just more obvious now.

There's also a good Canadian news service that relatively few Canadians know about. It's a web site called rabble.ca

It's main feature is retired journalist, Karl Nerenberg who covered Ottawa for the CBC. He was superb. Still is.
