What are the parameters of "supper", Jae? Mine are "whatever I feel like eating/can eat/have in the house at about the early evening period". Tonight was somewhat traditional - roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy, tempura vegetables leftover from my Korean/Japanese dinner out last night.

Supper is a main meal eaten in the evening Bette. what @BethAnne had was a snack.

That would qualify as a supper :)
 
"Can eat" and "have in the house" being the important words. Sometimes my evening meal is my main meal, sometimes lunch is - today it was lunch.

Correct. If I go out for lunch, I'd have little more than a snack for supper. In fact, in English (as in the country) parlance, "dinner" is a main meal eaten at noon, "tea" is a substantial late afternoon/early evening meal and "supper" is tea and biscuits or sandwiches in the evening.
 
Interesting to note that 'supper' and 'soup' share linguistic roots. 'Supper" originally meant 'soup', indicating a light meal.... just sayin'.....

Lunch is a main meal eaten at noon or in the early afternoon. Supper is a main meal eaten in the evening. Dinner is the main meal of the day. What you had was a snack. The good news about that is that you can still allow yourself a supper. ;)

I yam cooking sausages and flatbread thoughts at out church community to assist in the raising of spiritual peoples roaming in a field of intellect ... much of eM are blind tuit. I've almost given up hope as it appears to be 3 minutes to midnight.
