Unusual keep sakes

My mom has my report cards, elementary school notebooks, and some school art, and a poetry book from grade 6. For safe keeping. I move a lot and they don't. She keeps some keepsakes for me - they're sort of both of ours because they're memories for her, too. She's given me things that have a tendency to get misplaced when left in my hands. A bunch of stuff was left in storage. The unexpected happened and I can't bring it everywhere. Someday maybe I'll have a den or home office where I can display some of it. But it always stays packed away with nowhere to put it. That's why my dad didn't want his keepsakes from my grandma's house. He's a movin on kind of guy. He has his memories in his head, but not a lot of need for physical ones that need a place to go. Or, like my stepdad, my ex and other men I know...if it's packed in a box and never used, its considered clutter. Every year or so it gets rummaged through and dwindled down, determined if anything goes into a garage sale. So lots of keepsakes I wish I had were sold. They sold some first addition classic rock albums...for 50 cents or $1 each (theirs but they were in our house and I hoped to inherent them. It didn't occur to them).. That was disappointing. My view-master with the slides, gone for a couple of bucks. That was worth something. They sold it. A few other cool toys from the 70s and early 80s are gone. My cabbage-patch-kid that was a hot item at the time, is gone. I'm not that pragmatic. I do wish I had room to keep some of it and didn't move so much. 10 years ago, I never intended to have life go upside down in 5 years, and couldn't see the future. One ends up making peace with having mental memories instead of material reminders.

My kids had typical graduations organised by the school and some parents. Oldest didn't complete Grade 12 but walked through everything with the rest of her class. Next one wore a standard suit that he had for quite some time after. Third kid wasn't interested in the dress buying nonsense and chose to sew herself a tux that matched her escorts. Youngest wore a dress shirt and pants and graduated proudly a couple of years late (growing up problems!). .He simulanteously took a welding course from Community College and had a job waiting for him right away.

Oldest grand attended unwillingly due to pressure from Mum. The next two only attended the public portion - declining the dinner and dance. One was asked to be Valedictorian and said Thanks, but no thinks. One more in High School and a young one left to go. I also have two step grands who didn't invite us to their celebrations.

My stepdad gave my step-niece, his granddaughter, an awesome turntable from the 70s...top of the line that my dad bought back in the day when my parents were together - a fixture item throughout my childhood. Sleek, slim, metal arm and metal trim, thin wood base, clear cover...a classic good quality 70s turntable. It was my mom's, my dad left behind. My stepdad figured it wasn't used and free for the taking. I was there and couldn't say anything. My 20 yr old hip step-niece was delighted, and that's worth more.

I have a little drawing of an elf and a mushroom done when I was around 7 or 8. My dad kept it with his papers and we discovered it when he died. I still have it. I need to find a way to display it. Not much else. My bros have everything because I've moved so much in the last few years, the family stuff is safe with them. I'm the opposite of a hoarder. I get rid of things too fast.

Sounds like a nice frame is needed. Maybe a hand made one with birch branches to go with the elf and mushrom theme?

I like that idea. I'm not crafty enough to make a frame from scratch, but I could glue the birch to a ready made frame, couldn't I. Thanks.

Yes. You can buy cheap frames from Lots of places, Walmart, hardware stores. And embellish! Maybe an acorn cap or two
