Gardener or Carpenter?

Saw this review of an interesting looking book today about kids & parents/adults - copied from the Greater Good website listing of Favorite Books for 2016 (http://greatergood.berkeley.edu/article/item/our_favorite_books_of_2016/success)



I find the concept of gardener & carpenter quite descriptive in terms of how we relate to kids. Anybody read this yet? Any initial responses to reading the review?

I suspect I'm a bit a mix of both, but leaning more to the gardener side of the scale. You?

Haven't read the book. But wanted to quote my best friend, who said that " kids absorb their parents values and behaviours by osmosis".
That is a blessing as well as a curse. Her son took the path of his father by dealing with his mental health problems with alcohol.
My son, who I always wished to be a reader, but a learning disability prevented him from enjoying it, had me worried that he will stay fairly uneducated because of it. ( Facebook realy doesn' t cut it). However, the other day, I noticed he had his radio set on CBC ( like Me listening to CBC in the car). Clearly osmosis. Would not have happened if I had bugged him.
