What would you call a derailment? a comment, taking over a thread or.........?

Is the thread owned by the poster?

Does a thread go where a thread goes?

I am trying to straighten my head on Jaes unfair thread.

What do you think?

A derailment is also known as a tangent. It is conversation that spins off of some point made even if it doesn't participate in the original trajectory of the conversation.

Literally? No. All threads are communal. The thread initiator may want to exercise some control over the discussion particularly since the topic is of such concern that they were willing to start it. We have had concerns in the past with folk who started threads and then disappeared from the conversation.

Sometimes. And sometimes with another nudge it can be brought back on target.

I thought that the diaper bag comment was pretty perceptive. Just because Jae wasn't interested doesn't mean that your post represents a derail.

I think you are questioning your participation based on remaks made by Jae. I wouldn't give him that much power.

Tangents and derailments don't seem like exactly the same animal to me.
I'd agree with this. A tangent has at least one point of contact with the subject under discussion originally (say, for example, diaper bags as something like handbags). A derail is a total change of subject (if, in Jae's thread, for example, we started exchanging chocolate chip cookie recipes, that would be a derailment.)

so what is your favourite chocolate chip recipe??????

slice-and-bake seems to work best with my temperament and talents.

What's yours?

WEll first you open the bag....

TRuly I have a great double chocolate chip recipe (I usually add some mint extract to it as well) at home but given the time I seem to have available the above option kicks in

I like chocolate chip cookies that someone else made. Church potlucks often have good versions.

Could be the effect of Bacchus ... that distant whine ... :ROFLMAO: ... like a whistle in the pines or the Gran' Mutter ...

Sorry, @crazyheart, we've sort of gone somewhat off track here. Have we sort of answered your questions? Do you have more questions for us?

Suite Pie Yette ... another sign of Pie Out've here ... a GG from space?

This would disrupt a lot of fixed beliefs here that believe people didn't go into outer space ... so called a farce as if they did go up they fall flat on there face with a reasonable ration that assisted the calculation of well ... rounded things ... unless well versed in certain indeterminate words ...

These people didn't believe people could fall all around as in Black bird Pi ... sweet cover-up ... sometimes crusty and tough with magi in the kitchen perhap-snot-heh ... grains allow networking ... of cellular stuff ... as when locked in a wormhole and suffering the vertigo of God ... mind blown or just brainstorm? They do boil up at time when Matilda waltzes ... down under ... Billy ever been to see?

I was actually going to reply to the thread, but having read through the thread I no longer remember what the thread was about. Damn you all for derailing it!
