I grew up in New Zealand-Aotearoa, and spent most of his childhood in, on, beside or under Te-Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa (the Pacific Ocean). I enjoyed lively cross-cultural engagements and found a lifelong interest in cultural diversity. I've dived, sailed, surfed, climbed and hiked. And this natural and cultural experience was the real, basis of my education.
My dad encouraged me to ask ‘why not?’ rather that ‘why?’.” Obedient to that advice, and heeding my mother’s insistence on curiosity, I've pursued life with a passion. As an author, journalist, teacher, photographer and scholar, I have lived deeply and travelled widely.
My staunch companion, Sue, a presbyter in the United Church of Canada, is the fount of my joy and inspiration in the whole of life, physical and spiritual… and I love her wholly.
