Snoopy understands there are legends about this jar of manna.
And you are right -----

The eating of the bread that sustained the Israelites in the wilderness was to not be forgotten by them and so God had them gather some and put it in a jar or pot to be kept so when the Ark of the Covenant was built it would be put in the Ark as a reminder for future Generations that it was God who rained down their bread of life from Heaven that saved them to get to the promised land -----

Exodus 16:33-34 EXP B

33 Moses told Aaron, “Take a jar and fill it with ·two quarts [ an omer] of manna. Then place it before the Lord, and ·save [keep] it ·for your descendants [ throughout your generations].

34 So Aaron did what the Lord had commanded Moses. He put ·the jar of manna [L it] in front of the ·Agreement [ Testimony;  the Ark, named for the Ten Commandments placed in it] to keep it safe.

There were 3 things placed in the Ark of the Covenant after it was constructed ----

Hebrews 9:4 states that the Ark contained "the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant.

The physical manna that rained down from heaven to sustain the Israelites in the wilderness only satisfied their hunger temporarily

Jesus who is our Spiritual bread of life now is the only one who can save us and get us to our right destination and by and through our faith in Him our hunger is forever quenched -----

God providing manna reminds us of his provision. The manna's preservation in the Ark symbolizes God’s enduring covenant with his people.

Christ offers eternal sustenance. Through faith in him, our spiritual hunger's satisfied. We're guided towards our ultimate destination.

As we reflect on these truths, let's be encouraged to share hope's message. We've the privilege of pointing people to Jesus. Let's spread his love, so that others may experience the eternal satisfaction that comes from knowing him

The people journey in stages, as the Lord commanded. When they arrive at Rephidim, there is no water. They quarrel with Moses and demand water for themselves and their livestock.

Moses cries out to God. Moses is instructed to go ahead of the Israelites in the company of elders. He is to strike the rock at Horeb with his staff & water will come out.

Moses considers that the people have tested the Lord, with their quarrelling & their questioning, "Is the Lord among us or not?"

Snoopy's Snappy Review: Exodus 17: 1-7

Hmmmm. . . Lots to unpack here about spiritual leadership.
The way I see it, several key lessons emerge:

Dependence on God: We leaders must continually seek God’s guidance, recognising that he's the source of all we need.

Obedience and Faith: As leaders, we must faithfully trust in, and act on, God’s plan.

Intercession and advocacy: We leaders must advocate for those we serve. We must be prayerful leaders.

God's faithfulness: We leaders must follow God's guidance, reflecting Christ’s love in all we do

Why do we think God wanted Moses to be in the company of elders when he struck the rock with his staff?
Doing it that way served multiple purposes.

First, it was a show of God's power to Israel's leaders, reinforcing their faith. The elders witnessed firsthand God's miraculous provision, which they could then testify to the community.

Second, involving the elders helped to establish a sense of shared leadership. The elders' presence underscored the unity among Israel's leaders.

Third, by including the elders, God was stressing the importance of the leaders in guiding the people. This teaches us the value of having strong leaders who'll witness to God's work

I can't help wondering how this story or the one about the manna, would benefit starving families in Sudan or anywhere....especially since in this day and age, we are short of God's miraculous manna and water.
Do we just hope God is with them spiritually when they die?

Well God wanted this Miracle to be witnessed by some elders so that they would see this miracle happening for themselves and dispel any doubt that the water came from the Rock as God had said it would ----- this would become what they knew and could teach as leaders as they witnessed it first hand ----

And as Jae has pointed out that it certainly would have boosted their Faith and confidence in their leadership quest ---

The Rock also is an important mention here as the water that came from the Rock quenched their thirst and this again is a foreshadowing of the Coming Christ who is the Rock who will Quench our Spiritual thirst by delivering the living Water who is the Holy Spirit -----

The Israelites were a lot who even though they saw all these miracles and were protected and delivered by God they still were an ungrateful people -----their human twisted nature was still at play ----

God could have just said I am done with these rebellious people but instead He knew that what the people needed more than water was God Himself -----

And so the same is for us today ----more than all we have ---We need God to be ever present in our lives ---

This is really something to wrestle with when we consider this passage.

Reflecting on the stories of God’s provision stirs deep emotions, especially when we see so much suffering in our world today.

We Christians believe that these stories call us to action. Jesus taught us to care for the least of these. This means that we're be his hands and feet on earth.

This means supporting organizations that provide needs to the needy. It means advocating for justice. Our faith must inspire us to generously share God’s love.

We must recognise our role in being part of the solution. Let's make a difference in the lives of the struggling.

Let's be moved to act, helping those in need. God bless you for your compassion

The miracles witnessed by the Israelites were meant to strengthen their faith. These events were about revealing God’s character.

The Rock as a foreshadowing of Christ's deep. Jesus offers us living water through the Spirit, quenching our spiritual thirst. This connection reminds us that God’s provision's for our spiritual well-being.

God’s love persisted. This teaches us about his mercy. The Israelites needed God more than the water. We too need him in our lives above everything else.

We Christians must share this message of hope with others. Let's witness to God’s miracles, encouraging others to trust in him. Let's help others experience Christ's living water.

Let's share God’s love, being instruments of his mercy. God bless you for your reflections

But when we don't do anything or enough, where's God?

We Christians believe that God's always present. He works through us to bring about his will. A lack of action's a call for us to act as Christ's workers.

When we care for others, we're serving Christ. Our actions matter in God’s eyes. When we feel that not enough's being done, it's an invite for us to step up and do more.

God’s presence's revealed through our actions. When we respond to the needs around us with love, we become an expression of God’s love. It reminds us that God chooses to work through us.

So, when we ask, “Where’s God?” we must also then ask ourselves, “How can I be a part of the solution?” By doing so, we align ourselves with the missio Dei.

Let's act with dedication, knowing that God's with us to bring hope to the needy

I expected all of your answers, I grew up with the church....we all say it don't we? It's frustrating....but yes the churches do try.

But when we don't do anything or enough, where's God?
Here is the thing Waterfall ---God's Children will always be moved to help others in need -----as God's Faith propels God's Childrens to act and help others ---a true Christian out of their Agape for God will spring into action to help the person in need to glorify God ----
-----this is Faith in action for the Glory of God -----so God is in the mix

Unbelieving people have made their choice to be away from God so if the person does help another in need -----they glorify themselves not God -----their god is the god of this world and so the God of Abraham --Isaac and Jacob is far from this Mix ---

God is always their for us ----We are the ones who choose to keep God away from us ----

They do... some more than others. I can't say I've ever been in a church that did a tremendous job of it. Most believed the right things but then never put them into action

The Israelites face the first battle of their journey. Moses asks Joshua to choose some men and lead the fight against Amalek.

Moses, Aaron and Hur watch from the hilltop. The Israelites prevail when Moses raises his arms. But he becomes tired and the others hold up his arms.

Joshua defeats Amalek by the sword.

Moses builds an altar and calls it "The Lord is my banner."

Snoopy's Snappy Review: Exodus 17: 8-16

Victory for the tribe under the banner of the tribal God!

We meet Joshua who later becomes a pretty important dude! :)

As we consider this reading, please refrain from discussing how Exodus foreshadows Christ.

Ditto for talking about what " we as Christians" are called to do in the present day.

These points of view have been well expressed already and such posts are becoming repetitive on the thread.

Many thanks. P,3/ Snoopy
