The Rev. Vosper Again

Interesting article in the Observer

Nice piece. Fairly well-rounded, hits all the various bases and viewpoints. I think one point that comes across loud and clear, though, is that settling this through a legal mediation specific to this case means the bigger questions go unaddressed. What are the boundaries for ministers in terms of beliefs and articulating them?

While seeking official standing at Vosper’s formal hearing, Randy Bowes, chair of West Hill’s board, said he tried to “get rid of this concept that Gretta is the shepherd and we are the sheep.” If General Council’s formal hearing panel decided to get rid of Vosper, he asks, what would prevent West Hill United from calling a minister with similar views and beliefs?
That's what I said multiple times!

And again, people complained I didn't know what I was talking about.

Cruxifusion, a group of United Church clergy who, according to their website, “consider their ministries centred on Jesus Christ, our Lord,” decided to make no official comment on the Vosper decision, says its vice-chair, Rev. Greg Smith-Young, minister at the Elora-Bethany (Ont.) pastoral charge. Speaking only for himself, Smith-Young says, “I was glad to see the national church reiterate that we have beliefs, we have doctrine, that God is Trinitarian.
I love that last bit: "...that God is Trinitarian." It's just such a throwaway statement. It's a "my mom says I'm the best son in the world"-type of assertion. When that's what you hang your hat and your beliefs on....man, that's either sad or hilarious.

I mean, she made a blog post, and Facebook blew up. Who reads blog posts?

But if Gretta makes a blog post, all hell breaks loose. I don't get it. Because people explode over her, she gets more attention. She gets more attention, she gets more support. Her rabid opponents in the United Church are amazingly useless at opposing her. She could never get the support she gets without her detractors.

The Facebook comments over the blog post are getting hilarious. Who the hell is Shawn Ankenmann? He's frothing at the mouth. Not sure how long his comment or my reply will stay up, and if mods want to delete either, I'm fine with it, but this guy is terrific from my perspective:

Turns out the entire FB post and conversation was removed.
Isn't that interesting? There was some criticism directed at the topic starter of the thread because she didn't offer any comment in her OP.

People often stick things up on the United Church page without explaining what they actually want to talk about. They have been attempting to address this lately.

I thought the thread in question had disappeared for a while yesterday but I assumed it was just me and my poor FB navigation skills.

Give me WC2 any day for meaningful discussion!

The United Church, like a lot of churches, still has a pretty significant FoxNews problem. A lot of people are totally into outrage generation. They love being offended, and they will never fail to tell you how offended they are. They are extremely offended by Rev. Vosper. There is no problem in Canada as big as the threat she poses.

In that way, it's completely hilarious. I love that stuff, because I can have endless fun with it.

I am really ticked off that thread was deleted.
It is the way of United Church social media management: When things make you look bad, delete them. Because that always works.

Was it Aaron again or did someone beat him to it?

Thanks for the images. Dang, this really ticks me off.

Facebook does NOT give the tools required to admins / moderators

Your personal bias is showing.

No admin or moderator deleted the post.
The original poster has the ability to turn off comments and delete posts.
Wish we could stop that; however, is not a function that our group can do. Maybe some day Facebook will catchup.

Thanks for the images.
I still had it up in another tab. I did not have the replies expanded, and I can't expand them now with the conversation deleted, but here are all the original comments in image format:

My personal experience is showing. It's simply pattern recognition.

Jen Palin took down her own post? Interesting. Guess it wasn't going the way she hoped.

I would love to have seen the last post on your images expanded upon. It spoke to one of the rules of posting.
The moderators at the site will be reviewing.

I am not sure how helpful it is to be discussing any motivation of someone else who is not part of this community.

I, too, was assuming it was an Admin or Mod decision to delete the thread.

The one who started the thread was taking some flak for it. Maybe she was wise to take it down.
