Practice making squares (same size) and then they can be joined together to make an afghan. :)
Personally, I don't enjoy the joining together part of afghans made in squares. But to each her (or his) own.

A scarf in garter stitch is a good first project. Lovely if you use one of the self-striping yarns.

But for a second project it is good to learn how to purl.

I've never done one yet, but if I did, I'd crochet the squares together as much easier.

Last as I sit in class learning about theology and contextual ministry, and missing my Keurig coffee.

You and @Northwind and I . . . all still knitting!

Have enjoyed our chat about the quality of knitting needles.
LAST

Is plural of knit ... knut ... or knoot and thus we ka noot know .. as derived from Nous ... an ancient word for sol ... and light in the dark as Levite ... one begins to be cognizant of the ridiculous penetration of humour as funny chit as spin off of the Midnight Sun and Winnies' Poo ... such crap amuses children ... thus weIRe .. or weird ... as wired together unknown to the bulk as host?

Thus Black Maas ... a floe of what we don't know ... as heaven streams by in sleep ...

Funny thing is, all this talk about knitting has me intrigued. OTOH, with my atrocious hand-eye coordination any knitting done by me would likely trigger screams of terror (or laughter).

My mate according to legal Loss ... knots while not even looking ... a blind process?

That is she knits with me making room for Eire ...

The decreases on the neckline and armholes are almost too challenging for my tired brain today...but, I'm not quite ready to give up yet.

Such a pain to tear out knitting and start again. Crocheting is much easier as far as ripping out & resuming your project goes!

Crocheting is definitely easier than sewing them together but I still don't find that part enjoyable. More of a task to get through at the end of a project.
That's partly why I altered this pattern so I didn't have to do any sewing - except shoulder seams :)

That it is :)

But I will add that overall I prefer knitting to crocheting.
It depends on the project - I prefer knitting for some things and crochet for others.

@Northwind...I'm still having to rest after each row or two (as I did with the cables) just to focus my mind again :)

I consider that to be "unknitting". I've gotten very good at correcting mistakes......and I'm sure you can understand how I got good at it. o_O Alas. Sometimes I consider the first mess to be a practice run/warm up for the real thing which will of course be brilliant.

I am now LAST.
