Yep, caucus voted this morning to turf O'Toole. Too bad, I like him better than either Scheer or Harper but he was saddled with a party that can't seem to decide if it wants to be a reasonable, fiscally conservative alternative to Trudeau or the GOP North.

My bet now is they go the latter, which will basically hand the Liberals the next election or two since Ontario and Quebec have made it clear they aren't interested in so-con BS

Maybe I will be wrong and a strong moderate centre-right leader will emerge. But even then, short of that leader risking a split in the party, they will be hamstrung by the so-cons and other extreme factions trying to assert control over the agenda.

Anyone other reactions?

I read that Chris Warkentin, the MP for Grande Prairie, AB authored the letter. That didn't surprise me. A lot of people in that part of the world, which includes the BC Peace, support the PPC and Maverick Party.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I suspect the GOP north version will be more likely. Sadly. That will mean Trudeau or the Liberals will be in power for awhile.

I guess to be fair to the Conservatives, the Liberals kind of went through the same process between Martin and Trudeau. Choose a leader, lose an election, choose another leader ...

I hope Kenney will be the next to be removed as leader, although I don't know if any replacements would be much better.

The question right now is going to be whether he goes for the federal job. Doug Ford has already said he's not interested. Kenney would be a disaster for them in Eastern Canada so I imagine he'll stay put but you never know.

Well the obvious choice is Ben Mulroney...lol....or maybe Caroline seriously?

Kenney has been the least liked premiere for some time. If Alberta doesn't like you how likely is it that you will get the position of party leader?

Caroline, please. She's a member of the Ford government who actually isn't terrible and is a fairly smart cookie.

As for Ben ... the day being an entertainment host/reporter is a qualification for being PM is the day I give up on our system for good.

Problem I have with predicting another couple of terms for federal liberals (huge *le sigh*) is that it makes it more likely for Ontario to remain Conservative-led, and I'm not sure the environment will survive that.

I'm not sure the environment can survive a Conservative government in Ottawa, given that nerfing climate change legislation is likely going to be a big part of the new leader's mandate. I imagine that if the new leader gives the Western "base" that bone, they might get away with staying away from hot button so-con issues like abortion and repealing gay marriage. And since the odds of an NDP government in Ottawa are about the same as the odds of my other cataract spontaneously healing without my ophthalmologist's skills, I think we need to keep the Liberals in Ottawa and still do something about Ford within Ontario.

So I'm hearing that Candice Bergen (the Canadian politician, not the American actor) is the interim leader. Which keeps her out of the race for the permanent job, and that's probably not a bad thing. I have not been impressed with her in the past. However, she was deputy leader under O'Toole and house leader under Scheer so certainly is qualified for the interim role.

He was clear in the update prior to the vote he wasn't. I think his current approval rating is too low.
