What if this place went dark?

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

We could probably do a deal to transfer the WC2 license and domain and then you could spin up a new site under whatever name you wanted with the old domain pointed to it so people know it's the successor. I have wanted to do that with the old Wondercafe.ca domain but so far, the UCCan is hanging on to it.

Maintenance on Xenforo is $65 a year now but that's optional and I don't pay until I need to be in support to get an update. And they often do sales right before a price increase, allowing me to pay a couple years ahead at a lower rate. Domains are cheap if you use the right registrar.
We'll see when we get there.

I think it's clear the group has more years behind us than ahead of us. That's probably true for ourselves as well. I'm satisfied that the current mods admitted the errors of their predecessors in my case. Achieving that validation before WC2 possibly closed up shop was rather important to me, obviously. With that done, it's easier for me to let go and make people laugh again. It would have been extra tough for me if we never got there before this place was shuttered.

That said, there is no direct indication that it will close soon. I know many of the conversations have been had before. I try to keep my comments new, but I'm sure many of you will read a post and mentally compose a reply in my style without consultation.

And there is always the news cycle to keep us on our toes. Are there any newsworthy political stories lately?

And for the bible nerds among us, we have a treasury of material that will last a lifetime

I was thinking about that yesterday. I'm really enjoying reading Paul's letters instead of snippet by snippet. I think real Paul pisses me off almost as much as Pseudo Paul, lol. But what got me thinking about this is the lectionary, and my weekly bible study, and how every three years we generally talk about the same passage again (we have a bunch of leaders, and very occasionally we'll try the Hebrew reading, but rare). So, I've looked at Luke 4:21-30 a lot of times in life. But the cool thing is with close reading and present mindfulness, I do not think/feel/react to this passage as I did 3 years ago. Or six years ago...

And I have outlived sites I thought I could not live without. Early feminist forum called She-Net (I was on that site the day of 9/11). Then beliefnet (a huge religious site with some awesome little corners where I met a few people I am friends with to this day, quite a few of whom I've met IRL). Then I varied between a bit of the original WC and Ship of Fools (Anglican) for a couple of years, then landed here. I have met many of you in real life, and will never ever forget Crazyheart.
