Haven't seen it, but honestly, if Ontario has a choice, Ontario generally picks stupid. *sigh*

I don't know why the provinces struggle so much to hit a good balance. Medical excemptions seemed too strict too.

There are folks with responsibility for community purpose ... and there are those expecting to escape such purpose ....

Might the vast escapee destabilize the vessel?

This whole 'not passport' think is rather irritating.

I don't understand the rush to crash the site. I was a bit annoyed earlier as the app instructions didn't work (it specifically doesn't allow for screenshots due to health data) and the print option set up wasn't working. That was before the announcement of it being a non passport silly double speak though. I did do a photo of my card a while ago, I figured good to have the lot numbers and stuff on there plus I went to the browser and got my info off of there too.

The day it was announced there would be non passport restrictions, but the card wouldn't be up quite yet that day so many people got on a crashed the system. Not a biggie for the vaccine records. This also crashed both healthcare systems to patients though (why is there 2, dunno). So covid test results on both plus for those of us in the not yet for everyone connect care things like messaging our specialists, requesting appointments, e check ins, etc.
The system was smart and decoupled the 2 the next day, so while I couldn't access My Health Records without a long queue (if it worked, when I had tried for the connect care aspect the queue didn't work prior to the crash), I could access the connect care stuff.

Day the cards are out - it's totally separate of both. So all those idiots who were crashing the system were doing so needlessly. I do a 75/25 blame split on the UCP and the public for that.

Now people are complaining that the card can be edited. Yeah, well so can a lot of the other aspects to show 'proof', so I don't think it's all that problematic as long as multiple methods are allowed.

I'm also confused by the rush, does everyone really want to eat in a restaurant so badly? I have no plans to go anywhere that requires it any time soon.

Remember, in AB it's not a passport, even though the section on the website is Vaccine Passport, just to make it clear it's not one.

Found on the Alberta Health website this evening.

It’s embarrassing and infuriating to watch the UCP Government do acrobatics to avoid saying “vaccine passport.”

We need real leadership right now, not political games.

Lives depend on it.

The rush had to do with the fact that normally to access records you need to verify your id and then get a code sent to you to finish verifying that you are who you are. This can take a couple weeks (though I got my code in 6 days). The government said last week that people would need to print something off, intimating it would be on the regular site. Then yesterday (and quietly, I only learned about the other site because someone posted it on FB) we find out that there is a whole other place to get the "not a passport" card (which is an odd size for the record). This is on the government communication pattern.

Although the ID and code was available over a year ago. I guess some may have rushed to get access specifically for the vaccine records although there are other options.
On Wednesday there was a whole lot of unnecessary traffic, when the cards weren't available, no change really existed to what was online and it affected healthcare to many in an already stretched system and the government even specifically asked people not to do it that day (although I certainly understand not really caring what they say at this point).

I agree, using a different site altogether was a surprise, but that was announced when the print off cards actually became accessible. So the options from My Health Records In July, on Tuesday, was the same on Wednesday when everyone decided to crash the system.

I probably won't bother with the card even if not a passport is required for healthcare until a QR code comes out. Photocopying my card from the pharmacy seems easier to have something to carry around with me off of my phone, while keeping the original at home.

For non-AB residents to make this clearer here's a timeline in case you're wondering:

My Health Records - available to all, before the pandemic began but registration is required. Quite a few people did register during the pandemic due to test results being available on there and before the texting system came through and it was autodiallers, results were way faster online. Vaccine records were always available on here although they were slow to update initially, my first dose took a month to show up, 2nd dose a week.

Proof of vaccination - all along we were told we could use the paper record, a photo of the paper copy, the record on My Health Records (some of the instructions to save an electronic copy offline or print don't work, but some of the instructions do work). These options also work for travel, for the passports in other provinces, etc.

Sometime in Sept it's announced a card will become available on Sept 16.

Wednesday Sept 15 - Government announces proof of vaccination will be required to do things like eat in a restaurant. We're told the card that we can access online has been delayed until Sun Sept 19, please don't sign into My Health Records until then just to obtain proof of vaccination.. It's announced the program where proof of vaccination is required won't start until the 20th. This ends up crashing both My Health Records and My AHS Connect (patient access of Connect Care) - mostly people with specialists where there clinics are in the hospital have access to this and we often use it to do things like check into appointments plus see all health records.

Thursday Sept 16 noonish- AHS decouples My AHS Connect (patient aspect of Connect Care) from My Health Records, allowing people to use it again.

Sat Sept 18 - We find out that My Health Records won't be necessary to access the card, so people who haven't gotten the code can print off the card.

Sun Sept 19 - cards are available with your name, healthcare number and month of 1 vaccine dose.

Mon Sept 20 - proof of vaccination restriction begins.

Sept or Oct - A card with a QR code will become available at some point.

Apparently people with a 3rd dose can't enter a business using the iPhone app using the QR code. If the business is using Android it's ok.

I was told those of us who are getting the third dose are still considered fully vaccinated at two doses. Our phones still reflect that.

Sure enough, gave it a try - on my phone (Android) the app shows Verified on Chemguy's (iphone) It scans as not verified.

Yes, I am considered fully verified. If I went to a restaurant right now though using an iPhone (to scan, doesn't matter where the QR code is, my phone, Chemguy's phone, paper copy) I would need to show my vaccine record, I can't use the QR code as proof. It's a glitch of the iPhone app. Why the coding is so different from Android I couldn't tell ya.

That would be the Alberta app then.

There's more than one AB app?
I think most provinces have 2, an iPhone version and an Android version. It should be a very easy fix as they have one working, so they know what needs to be adjusted. Why it's not done within a few hours? Doesn't surprise me with this government.

Oh. I didn't think of that. We don't have an app. We go to the website to download our proof. I've got mine saved as a photo because I couldn't download it when I got it. That was when it first came out

Don't you have QR codes too? Is it any scanner that works with them? That was seen as a privacy issue here because for any scanner to work with them it means that info is on a public website.

I got proof the day I got my first vaccine, but the issue is if it's just a matter of listing name, date of vaccination, etc. that can be easily forged.
