Yep, for all its flaws, social media is doing some good, too. My main concern is (a) the focus of Meta and some of the others is more on getting "engagement" and putting ads in front of eyeballs than on supporting the good and (b) the general lack of serious moderation, esp. on X, partially due to the whole "engagement" issue. Controversy gets engagement, both pro and anti, which gets ads in front of eyeballs. So I agree that social media, like any tech, can have a positive impact. Too bad its negative side seems to be dominating due to the priorities of the owners.there are people using social media for good, who aren’t concerned about mainstream credentials, they are flying in the face of them. Sometimes that’s good and necessary.

Yes. The focus on clicks and likes - the popularity contest. It’s also kind of immature. It’s Jr high school mentality.Yep, for all its flaws, social media is doing some good, too. I would say its even worse when you look at the business side and realize that guys like Zuck and Elon are figuring out how to monetize that mentality.Yes. The focus on clicks and likes - the popularity contest. It’s also kind of immature. It’s Jr high school mentality.
Which is what I wrote :3I don’t listen to advice from people I don’t trust. Wow. Crazy.
But anyway, I keep forgetting, all Hail Trudeau, the Saviour of Canada during the Pandemic and Protector against those Dastardly Truckers who ate babies and played Motorhead!
May his Reign continue
And blessings continue upon Him
Amen
I seriously hope you're not suggesting that listening to Motorhead makes one dastardly. Lemmy is frowning down from metalhead heaven if so.and played Motorhead!
SHHH!I seriously hope you're not suggesting that listening to Motorhead makes one dastardly. Lemmy is frowning down from metalhead heaven if so.
Those technologies are elusive to most of the people who need them. I’m lucky to have a scooter but the environment is still hostile to my existence. Many are lucky to get a standard wheelchair funded. It reminds me about a case years ago whereby someone needed new dentures and the welfare ministry bought him a blender instead. On the other hand, lots of people could do more with really simple solutions like ramps, curb cuts, door openers and landlords and employers willing to put in a few simple tweaks. Oh ya, and transportation companies like airlines that make gazillions of dollars need to be more accommodating to their disabled customers and passengers. Sometimes a little goes a long way but people are not even willing to do the minimum. If a federal minister herself hadn’t gone public with her first hand experience perhaps those concerns would still be totally ignored instead of getting more exposure lately. These types of things happen to people daily. My daughter's partner/boyfriend is a biotech engineer working in robotics. Tech is making a huge difference in people's lives from medical tech to mobility devices. People who used to be stuck at home because of mobility issues are now driving their electric vehicles to stores, coffee shops, and other places.
The tech billionaires are the ones who seem self centered and indifferent to the wellness of others.
